It would appear the politicians and often inept local authorities are at it again, frightening people into thinking their vehicles do not comply with the new LEZ emissions regulations, and now need a new exhaust fitting so their vehicles comply. Due to the confusing letters sent out, many are worried about being prosecuted when there is no need to, and many are having these modifications done to their vehicle, even though they are not needed.
The letters sent state thet your vehicle does not comply, and are sent to various owners, they are often wrong, so what does compy and what does not.
In simple terms no domestic vehicle needs to make any modifications if it is registered as a car, if it is registered as a commercial vehicle you need to seek advice.
Commercial vehicles are classed as any domestic vehicle with a load carrying capacity which replaces passenger carrying capacity, or a passenger carrying vehicle with more than 9 seats, irrespective of whether they are used by private or commercial owners.
If you drive a pick up or crew cab pick up its a commercial vehicle
If you drive a vehicle with the rear seats removed and the rear windows blanked out its a commercial vehicle.
If you drive a Shogun, RR, LR, Terracan, or indeed any other vehicle with rear seats and side windows its not a commercial vehicle, so needs nothing doing despite any letters you may get, but you may need to check the V5 document to ensure no mistakes have been made.
