British 4x4 convoy to Abenteuer & Allrad Show 18-23 June 2014, Bad Kissingen, Germany

Hi Tuggy,  I'll bite the bullet and book the same ferry.  Not sure on the return, might book Monday 23rd.

How about stop-overs on route, I'll be stopping on the Brussells outskirts Sunday evening and then about 100km from BK on Monday night, nice slow plod into BK on Tuesday and get the best pitch and watch the trucks roll in.

OK Thats me booked..  ...sailing 12.00 noon sunday 15th june Dover-Dunkirk......if anybody wants to join the slow convoy book your self on this ferry and the RV will be at the docks... camping two nights before we reach badkiss...twende has the route....  ..

I've finally got around to booking my ferries for Bad Kiss. Outbound is on the same DFDS noon ferry (Dover-Dunkirk) Sunday 15th June 2014 as Tuggy and Twende.

Return Dunkirk-Dover will be 20.00 on Monday 23 June 2014. Return cost was £64 by the way.

There will be four of us - 'No Neck' Lee, Mark (my Land Rover mechanic mate), 'German Ralf' and myself. As the Rangie won't be ready, plus the fact it's only a two-seater anyway, I decided to hijack Sheila's C-Class Merc. The fact it runs on LPG and there's four of us, that'll cut the ol' travel expenses down somewhat.

So that's that, roll on June!!!

I am hoping to be ready to go , but have got to swap the gearbox , which i think means moving the engine back 25mm , so havent booked a ferry , as that will be sure to jinx it !   

Good stuff. Plenty of time yet, nearly a month in fact, and plenty of ferries between Dover-Dunkirk (or Dover-Calais of course, only 30 mins. down the coast) so booking at the last minute won't be too much of a problem. July and August are the really busy times, so you'll be okay 15th June or thereabouts.

It looks as if we have another vehicle joining the convoy!   

As time-wise he won't be able to book the same ferry on Sunday, he will join in somewhere en route. Could somebody PM the itinerary (i.e. campsites) so I can coordinate with the owner? Ta!

Well guys the DVLA are still getting me to jump through hoops to reinstate my HGV. It's been 9 months now, yeah I know, I could have had a baby in the same time.  They seem to criss cross appointments with your doctor then their doctor then your Diatise consultant and now I've got to see their consultant!!!

Unfortunately this means I'm going to miss the trip   but hopefully I'll be at the AO14.

One positive though, DFDS under the circumstances, have reimbersed my ferry fare.

Sorry to let you down Tuggy, I was looking forward to beating the Hares to the site.

Hi. Unfortunately we are going to have to join Twende in not being at the A & A show.
Due to personal issue's we have decided not to make the trip.
All being well we may make the Hubb.

Latest news with me is that I've decided to go in my new RR camper. Having today driven it from Penrith to Welshpool, then back to Coventry, I'm certain it will make it to Bad Kiss no problem whatever ... kiss of death!!!

It will be fine it's a Land Rover, what could possible go wrong !!!   

What can I say? The show itself was massive with hoards of visitors, an event that I'd recommend to any 4x4/off-road/overland fan. As usual the campsite for many was even more interesting than the main showground as the vehicles there were just incredible.

Our Brit area comprised of Majhal (Peter & Julie) in their well-travelled 110 + South African-built Conqueror trailer, Ralf & Co. with his ginormous Tentipi (I know, technically a German but nowadays an adopted Brit), yours truly and Bedworth Bert's Mark in the orange RR ambulance-come-camper, plus Tuggy 'n' Erica in their 101 camper based in 'the annex' ... a spot they picked out down by the river they thought would be far from the madding crowd, however they soon became surrounded by all manner of 4x4 campers and expedition trucks. Other Brits were also there, but dotted about the massive camping areas. In the main they found us, mainly due to the Union Flag we had proudly displayed. Any other situation abroad you'd have all Union/St George flags hidden as you'd attract all the 'Brits On Tour' numpties', but the 4x4 scene is entirely different. In this situation you are proud of the fact you've travelled a fair distance to join your German hosts and all the gathered nations, so don't mind in the least letting folk know where you're from.

Couldn't believe some of the high prices for goods though - madness. When I post some photos you'll instantly see what i mean.

Yep, overall a great show, will definitely return next year.

Unbelievable,  I've just had my final medical review with a DVLA regulated Diabetes consultant regarding my HGV.  It took 10 minutes after which he said "well Mr Provan, you are of no risk therefore I will fax this to the DVLA and you will be driving within 72 hours"  

It's taken 9 bloody months to get to this stage and it's all over in 10 minutes!! and to top it all I've missed this great gathering   

On the upside, see you all ay AO14

Sod's law that is, can't fight it. Never mind, there's always next year, or as you say, at Adventure Overland Show 2014.

Ah bless, and you didn't make a bad cuppa, so thanks for that. And in case you're all wondering, YES, I did manage the odd cup o' Rosie in between beers. That said, beer o'clock seemed to be getting earlier with each passing day. Well the Germans do make exceedingly good beer!!!

We'll definitely try to look everyone up whilst at Billing, our usual routine is not to plan anything, just chuck some kit together and go, no matter where it is in the world, (think it's an old school or maybe old age way of doing things ha ha).
Strange thing is we've ACTUALLY ! made plans to return UK from Spain for a couple of weeks to tie in with AO Stratford Show, seen the show progress since Daventry and keen to support it.

Sorry to bolt this onto the same thread but it's all relevant.

Now I've got my HGV back there's some catching up to do.  Will definately be at Billing so all are welcome to a cuppa or something a little stronger.

Good to see you the other day on the M6 Tom.  By the way, if you have a banner for the AO14 you're welcome to hang it on Twende for the Billing weekend.  We tend to set up on the Shellduck side right by the entrance.
