| Another cunning plan ... Abenteuer & Allrad (Adventure Wheel) Show 2012 7-10 June 2012 Billed as the “biggest off-road show in Europe” (no disputing that) I see two ways of visiting this show – 1. I have just acquired a 6-seater Mitsubishi Delica Exceed, so providing we could get 3 or 4 of us on board to split the costs equally – fuel and Dover-Dunkirk ferry – then it’s Germany bound for us as there would still be room for tents and stuff. or I’ll simply jump on a plane to Frankfurt, then a couple of trains east to Bad Kissingen. See www.4x4calendar.co.uk/show.php?y=2012&m=6 for info. Any takers? | |

| One major stumbling block for this event is the fact it clashes with one of my Pyrenees 4x4 Tours 2-10 June (Whitsun), but unlike the April tour (Easter) which is almost full, nobody has booked for the Whitsun tour yet. Providing they don't, then the door is open for going to this event. In other words it's exactly the same as you TJ, work may have to take priority. | |

| Decided I'm not running the Whitsun tour, so it looks as if I'll hopping on a plane to Frankfurt complete with a lightweight tent and sleeping bag in a holdall.
The alternative is to drive there, but this will cost approx. £368 in total what with the fuel and the Channel ferry. We'll see.

| Flying Ryanair early doors tomorrow morning, should be an experience. Hire car waiting for me at Frankfurt airport ... I hope! Should be a good bash especially as I'm meeting up with a Hungarian jouro I first met on the Rainforest Challenge down in Malaysia back in 1998. Haven't seen him since 2007, so may just have a couple of beers whilst catching up on old times. Well, it would be rude not to. Watch out for photos of some interesting camper conversions, etc. to come next week. | |

| I'm back! Great show but not as we would envisage a 4x4 show to be. Although there were off-road courses there, they were for passenger rides only. Also it was much more geared towards overlanding and not extreme off-roading, 4x4 parts or accessories. Of course there were a few accessories, but absolutely no autojumble whatsoever - far too costly for traders to bring used spares.
Whilst there I saw Barrie from Waypoint Tours, Brendan from 4x4Overlander and an Aussie mate I haven't seen for about 7 years. He flew over from Oz especially for the show! Keen or wot?
Didn't however meet up with the Hungarian 4x4 journalist I mentioned previously, but made loads of new contacts. Photos to follow, too knackered right now to post 'em.

| Okay, here's some photos. Mainly Land Rover I'm affraid as I will be forwarding them on to a LR magazine, so obviously had to concentrate on LR, but there's something in there for most people. First off, name the make and model:- Bet you're wrong. Scroll down to find out. This makes our value burgers look silly! No this wasn't a cooking demonstration, they were merely traders preparing their evening meal. The old ... ... and the new. Alternatively, if you haven't got the dosh for something as shiny, how about this for a piece of adaption - Plaque on the rear door. From the sublime to the ridiculous - or should that be the other way around? Something for the Jap 4x4 lovers amongst you. | |

| Next batch:- Like Land Rover owners the world over, the German Land Rover Club knows how to take the Mick out of themselves. These mannequins under their SWB Series Two proves the point. In fact, in another part of the show, another German Landy owner I spoke to said he belongs to the Bonnet Up Club. I asked him if he was serious, but of course he was joking - again he was simply making fun of himself. Good for him! As it happens, there really was a 4x4 club in South London (predominantly Land Rover owners) who actually called themselves the Bonnet Up Club!!! Talking of 'extracting the urine', I thought that 40p for a pee was disgusting. Fortunately I found a convenient (no pun intended) hedge which was just as well, as the amount of beer I consumed over the course of the show, it would have cost me £20 or more for the weekend. What the ?The thick black striped end was the 'pointy end', but the back was put to very good use ... as a bar with a barrel under the bonnet! What a great idea. Based on his experiences travelling overland, this French guy built his lightweight "Cap Lander" camper himself ... start to finish! He is now marketing the 300kg conversion. One thing is for sure, the man has good taste. That's a flyer for the ADVENTURE OVERLAND SHOW he's reading! | |

| The last bunch of piccies ... This trader was holding an impromptu end-of-show party for his staff and friends. With the beer flowing, they were having fun watching vehicles bounce over the sleeping-policeman type hump laid to protect cables running across the roadway. They even began awarding points like ice-skating judges as they encouraged traders exiting to 'bounce the highest'. All good fun! Some felt the bump, others didn't even realise it was there. What a beast - a massive V8, four-wheel-steering and axle articulation to die for. The tyres weren't bad either. Money to burn? Then go buy yourself an off-road prepared Disco. And no, I didn't look at the price tag with a view to buying it. A slightly cheaper off-roader. This one really was an Evoque. Yet another camper based on a Defender. I was amazed just how many were there. You couldn't move for zebra-striped Landies. This is the same trader as featured earlier with the Push-Me Pull-Me Landy and the Lang Rover, this guy certainly loves the Solihull stalwart. See what I mean. What's the collective noun for a group of zebras? Apparently it's a dazzle of zebras - most apt. The dazzle pictured from the reverse angle. Last but not least, this owner had some interesting graphics on his Discovery - brilliant! | |
