HUBB UK - Donington Park - 30th May to 2nd June 2013

Thanks first of all to Tom for the permission to post this....

As one of the organisers of events by Horizons Unlimited in the UK, I wanted to let everyone know about the new overland adventure travel event we're running near Donington Park next year.

It's called HUBB UK and it's taking place over four days, from Thursday 30th May to Sunday 2nd June, on the 20-acre site of Donington Park Farmhouse Hotel next door to the Donington Park racing circuit in Leicestershire.

HUBB UK is a re-invention of an event we've been hosting near Ripley in Derbyshire for many years and is aimed at everyone interested in overlanding, including 4x4 and other expedition vehicles, cyclists and motorcyclists.

All the details about the venue and the event are on the HUBB UK page of the Horizons site (there's a little video walk-round of the venue too), but here are a few of the headlines....

- Free camping and parking - with plenty of hardstanding areas, power hook-ups and water points throughout the extensive camping area.

- Over 200 sessions of presentations, workshops and demonstrations.

- Presenters include Toby Savage (2,000 miles across the Sahara in 1943 Jeeps), Simon Ward-Hastelow of Land Rover World magazine (winching and recovery demo), Rich Clafton (beyond 3.5 tonnes), plus Merv and Sarah Colton with a live webchat from somewhere in South America with their Unimog. Lots more will be announced as the event gets closer.

- Raising funds in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.

- Trade stands including the likes of Free Spirit 4x4.

- Land Rover World magazine plus Tom promoting this forum and the Adventure Overland Show in an area called the HUBB Zone, where there'll also be a roadkill cookout, bushcraft demonstrations, and live music.

- Expedition vehicle show.

- Free WIFI within the buildings.

- Two bars including a real ales bar (and there's a cash machine on site too)

- Spit-roast pig and great value food, including a take-away option in the evenings

If you have an inspiring story to tell about your own overlanding adventures, or if you've got particular 4x4 technical expertise you'd be happy to share in a workshop or demo, perhaps you'd like to be one of our presenters? The pre-registration form for presenters is here.

The HUBB Zone, where Tom will be, is mainly dedicated to clubs, forums and magazines, so if you run a 4x4 club you can book your free space here. Clubs get two free event passes included.

There are various options for visitors. You can just turn up on the Saturday and get a weekend-only event pass (including camping) for £40 at the gate. However, most people choose to come for the whole event from the Thursday morning onwards. That's £75 on the gate or you can pre-register in advance to take advantage of our heavily-discounted rates. The price per person until the end of October is only £45. The main pre-registration form for adventure travellers is here.

A quick update on what's new since my original post....

4x4 Overlander, Vampire 4x4 Tours, and Adventure Trucks (from Holland) have all confirmed they'll be exhibiting in the Adventure Travel Zone, plus Mike and Margaret Hingley have joined the growing list of presenters. They'll be talking about vehicle preparation, route planning and how they explored southern Africa in their Land Rover 110.

Tomorrow (Wednesday 31st October) is the last day of the £45 rate for pre-registrations, so if you're hoping to be there now's the time to book before the price goes up.

Thanks for the reminder, just booked, is it possible to arrive on site Wednesday evening, if not how early on the Thursday morning.

Just checked and reread about registration, and seen my wife has to pre register as well, so does she have to pay as well.

Yes, that's right. Pre-registration is per person.

Time flies! There are now just four months to go until the HUBB UK event.

The current price per person of £55, which represents a discount of £20 off the at-the-gate price, is only available until around 11pm tonight (31st January) - so if you're planning to be there and haven't registered already the next four hours is your window of discounted opportunity.

We still have a few free spaces left for clubs wanting to have a stand in the HUBB Zone - full details on the site.

Okay folks, this event is fast approaching and I desperately need your help.

I have a pitch at HUBB UK, Donington, Derbyshire DE72 3EP from Thurs 30 May – Sun 02 June at which I can promote the ADVENTURE OVERLAND SHOW 2013 - www.horizonsunlimited.com/events/hubbuk

Unfortunately, it is also the same weekend as the Abenteuer & Allrad Show in Germany, the largest off-road show in Europe. Sod's law!!!

This being the case, my mate Lee (Event Manager at ADVENTURE OVERLAND SHOW 2012), has offered to cover for me during the show. Myself meantime will be at HUBB UK all day and night on the Thursday, but come Friday morning I shall be flying out from East Midlands Airport (which is virtually next door) to Frankfurt, collect a hire car, then on to the show. I shall return Mon 03 June to collect my marquee from HUBB UK.

Any chance of anyone from the forum joining Lee over the weekend to keep him company on the stand? This BTW can be from just a few hours to quite literally all weekend, any help will be gratefully received.

It only involves distributing a few flyers, basically hand them out from the pitch as folk ask for them. It's a piece of cake and not rocket science.

If you going to HUBB UK anyway, you can pitch your tent immediately behind the ADVENTURE OVERLAND SHOW gazebo, so that way you'll be right in the centre of the show. Loads going on there so it'll be a great event.

Can anybody help?

By way of an update, the HUBB UK organisers have informed me that I can only have a couple of vehicles as part of the ADVENTURE OVERLAND/"4x4 Overland Travel Forum" display (basically it's not just us, this rule is for virtually all the displays in the Adventure Zone) so please don't all expect there will be a mass camping area behind the display - there won't be!

A substantial camping area has been allocated for regular camping - just so you know.

just been checking out the hubb uk site and can not find any provision for day visiters for this event! so whats the crack i wanted to pop down for the day and pay on the door?

Yep. Don't know if he can make it on the Wednesdy, but certainly from Thursday.

Sorry Kevin, received an answer back from Sam Manicon (Co-Organiser) on Tuesday but didn't get around to posting it on here - in other words I forgot.

Hi Tom,

Good to hear from you. The simple answer is that we don't do day passes. However, we do a weekend only £40 pass. This allows someone to come in on the Saturday and stay for the Sunday. It allows entry to all areas and all presentations and practical demonstrations, plus of course camping over night.

The info for that is at the bottom of the HUBB UK Page. If you could pass on the news that anyone who'd like to take advantage of that just needs to rock up and registration will get them sorted on the day.

but ouch (cant spare the time to camp for the weekend otherwise we would have pre-booked earlier) its a lot of money for one day,i think there missing a opportunity not selling day passes!

any way we can look forward to the overland show even more now
