| The RGS Overland weekend is to quote Sam Watson is
Quote:
Dates for the Royal Geographical Society Overland Workshop have been set for next summer - 28/29 May. Same place, YO60 6PR, Yorkshire.
Similar format to the previous 2 years, free camping, buffet nosh, talks, but this year also hoping for an offroad route and some other bits and bats. Hoping to keep the entry fee at £10, but still working out costs.
A report for the 2010 event can be found HERE
Sam Watson who runs the RGS Overland Weekend is a teacher at Terrington School, runs the Yorkshire RGS and writes in LRO about travelling.
There is not a website up about this event yet (to the best of my knowledge)
It is well worth going too if you are interested in overland travelling. Talk to people who have gone there/planning to go there. See kit which has actually been used. Whilst there are a few trade stands there is is not the typical selling show.
Last year Barbara (Scandinavia and Eastern Europe)and I {Australia) gave talks. If you want to see some of our pictures follow the links HERE That will give you an idea about the lectures at an RGS weekend.
It looks like the RGS will be twisting my arm for a talk in 2011

| Hi Brendan - what took you so long? Funny you should mention this event as I have been in contact with the RGS to clarify dates, venue, etc. so I can list it here and 4x4Calendar, but apart from emailing me back to say they were trying to find out the information I require, that's it so far. Glad you listed it (it's a start) but it will be updated with more detail when more info finally comes in. | |

Mandy, I'd say it would be worth a ride up from down there, even just for the craic, each year it's gotten bigger and it's one of the few times so many like minded folk are all in the same place (other than online ) From what I can gather from a mate of mine who exhibits at the RGS thingy, this year Sam's offerign the chance to exhibitors to do a short presentation during the day too.

Do you need to book in advance for this event or just turn up on the day ?

| You can turn up and pay for it on the day. (Or you could on previous 2 years)
However since lunch is included it will help Sam out if you drop him an email in May saying number attending. Just helps him out as a guide to the catering arrangements.

| She who must be obeyed gave me an ultimatum to finish decorating the kitchen before I left for France.
I had hoped to go but with the Evoque live show Saturday and off to France in the week just could not fit it in.

Don't be daft I ended up not camping this year as it's a bit mental this end, but it was a good weekend. Met a few familiar faces, and a few new ones and listened to some good talks again. Didn't feel very well on the Sunday (and no it wasn't alcohol related!) so if I was a bit funny with anyone I really didn't man to be
