| Hello everyone from a newbie to the whole off roading / landrover scene. Something that has been in the back of my mind for so many years, but due to boring things like having children, mortgage, needing a sensible car for work, lack of cash, etc, etc that’s where it stayed.
A slight improvement came when I brought an X-Trail three years ago. Yes I know what your think, Japanese rubbish!! There were and still are valid reasons to us for having such a car. And none of them to do with its four wheel drive ability – or not.
Anyway, children are going up, the mortgage has gone, a change of job means a smaller car to get to work would now be more appropriate. Thus the time has come to buy my first landy this spring for weekend use. Hooray. Just need to find some pennies lying around the house now to pay for it.
Dare say I will be posting many messages for help on here, as I set-up my proposed 110 for expeditions.

| Welcome! With my 4x4 journo hat on I was invited to the European launch of the Nissan X-Trail in Finland. In the company of other 4x4/off-road journalists from a host of countries, a fair amount of sniggering could be heard when we first saw the off-road course the fleet would be tackling. The banter soon ceased, for even on road tyres we sailed around the routes, no problem whatsoever. For many of us with egg on our faces, lesson learnt! | |

| Well funnily enough I remember catching the end of the “Fifth gear” programme a couple of years back when I turned over for the start of another programme.
I gather they have been looking at the small 4x4 end of the market (CRV, E-Xtrail, Rav’s, etc) and what was the best as a family car for under £20K secondhand. What came out on top, but the X-trail!!
Have to say its been great in the snow over the last couple of winters, but not sure I would want to risk going serious off roading in it.
