Hello from The Frozen North Empty
PostSubject: Hello from The Frozen North   Hello from The Frozen North EmptySun Dec 08, 2013 5:52 am

Hi folks,
Jas invited me to say "Hello" as a new member of this forum. I'm in the process of refurbishing a Defender 110 CSW with a view to doing some more adventurous "overlanding" than we've (wife and I) achieved thus far.
The last 2 summers have seen us and the Truck travel from the Highlands of Scotland to the Highlands of Italy (Dolomites) along mainly tarmac flat. Next year we've signed up for a greenlane tour of the Alps with a commercial guiding outfit, and hope to get enough out of that to be able to strike out alone in future with the confidence that we can look after ourselves to a large degree.
The Truck has been ours for 3 years and has been fitted out as a "stealth camper" but with enough versatility to be a general load-lugger. We have a double bed and kitchen in the back and I use it a lot as a base camp for sea kayak trips to the West Coast. A great place to escape the midges.
This winter we'll be getting everything set for rougher terrain - today was fitting the CB radio, next week will be sorting out suspension bushes, and then the springs, shocks...a long way to go but it's great fun.

Looking forward to picking everyone's brains for Top Tips and Things to Avoid.

Hello and welcome! cheers

Seems that we're getting a fair few that live up in that there Scottishland, before too long you'll be having your own meets. Very Happy

Top Tip: Don't eat the yellow snow ... or kiss anyone who has eaten yellow snow. affraid

Things to Avoid: The Andorra/Spain border south between 5-6pm, if your face doesn't fit you can be there for ages as Spanish customs go though everything. Seems the same is true of Gib nowadays.

What company will you be 'laning with?

Thanks for the Welcome. We are in Moray, near Elgin, and would appreciate some pointers and advice if anyone is close by (roamingman?) as we work on the Truck.
Next summer's trip will be with Waypoint Tours. I wanted to be a bit less cosseted, but the "co-driver" normally does the cooking, and she quite fancied having some time off and have someone else do it. We will, however, be self-sufficient for the week before and after so I should get my fix of roadkill and dodgy wine.

Hello and welcome from the Scottish Borders, Waypoint tours had a good write up in last months Landrover owner quite fancied it myself but that will be have to be for the future.

Seen as Tom got in with the yellow snow tip then I'll have to throw in... "Never pat a burning dog" affraid
