| Seems we're all holding back Jas. Go on then, I'll start the ball rolling and go for one -
1. The only diesel Jimny I know probably wasn't officially a Suzuki at all, but a Santana. Built in Spain it had a Renault motor if I recall, or was it a Pug? Either or ... a Santana Jimny.

Cant say I have heard of that. Clue: You can still buy it new from Malaysia and upto 2007 it was sold in Germany but in LHD only. Also begins with "M"....

| Mahindra - only thing i can think of starting with M! (something makes me think the model could be a "rocky" but maybe getting confused with something else Shogun (based on the pajero being the Japanese model, I'm thinking the Shogun was built elsewhere?) Gazelle (if not then I've one other option) Father | |

| We all thought of the Shogun as it's a re-badged Paj, but it's still a Japanese 4x4? Definitely stumped with the Jimny though. Been to Malaysia four times, and don't know anyone that builds the Jimny there - so even more confused. | |

| The Fourtrak was imported and converted by Bertone of Italy, they bought the vehicles part built and installed the BMW petrol engines for more power, they were sold under the Bertone brand name. | |

| They bought the vehicles as containers of chassis, containers of body panels, and containers of mechanical components, they assembled them in Turin, Italy, and used different suspension for a more compliant ride, they used the 2.0 BMW petrol engine for more power and to stay under the exhorbitant taxation Italy had for vehicles exceeding 2.0 litres, meaning the 2.8 diesel would cost a fortune in additional taxation. Bertone made their own front panels to make them different from the Daihatsu models, and called them the Freeclimber and Freeclimber 2.
They sold well even though they were not as good as the Fourtrak diesels off road, but the taxation system Italy had at that time meant Daihatsu would not have sold many, if any 2.8 engined vehicles.

| The Fourtrak was an alternative to Land Rover, which were to be purchased by certain elite Italian Police forces, however the LR Defender and Fourtrak had equal abilities for their wide range of duties, but both suffered from having engines over 2.0 litres capacity, in Italy they penalised any vehicle with engines in excess of this size by massive taxation, which in this case would be funded by the Italian Government.
Bertone came up with the solution, just make the heavier duty vehicles with smaller engines which were below the limit, Land Rover rejected this idea claiming they needed these vehicles with the diesel engines which were fitted for power and performance off road, which was their main use, Daihatsu took another approach, they worked with Bertone to work on engines suitable. BMW were chosen as their 6 cylinder, 2L petrol engine delivered the torque none of the Toyota engines used in other Daihatsu vehicles did, it was cheap to buy, reliable, and easily installed. Bertone being an Italian company meant jobs for Italian workers which sweetened the deal for the Italian buyers, so the vehicles were built there from the kits of parts they had.
Other companies were considered for the engines, Iveco being the most obvious, but their engines were over the 2.0L limit for the required power and torque, and Fiat diesels were below the capacity limit, but suffered a distinct lack of torque so were deemed unsuitable.
