| Just received an email from an overland enthusiast in Portugal about my ADVENTURE OVERLAND SHOW in October. It's yet another reference to Iveco 4x4's converted into campervans. This being the case, thought I would reproduce it here as Ivecos are clearly a popular choice as campers, plus this one looks extremely well built:- Dear Tom,
Im not sure if i will be able to go from Portugal... but feel free to use any of the Iveco M.A.D Project pictures.
https://picasaweb.google.com/101737127721690234218/VekyTheSelfBuildingOfA4x4MotorhomeTruck
Anything else i can help, feel free to ask.
Best Regards from Portugal
João Pedro SantosAs you may already know, an owner had already booked his Iveco 4x4 camper in the ADVENTURE OVERLAND SHOW as a display vehicle. From this ... To this ... Well now yet another owner has also booked his Iveco in, and it's seen a bit of action - It’s a 4.5 tonne Iveco Daily 4x4 Camper, already done trans-Africa, Australia and West Africa with previous owners, now being refurbished to do Central Asia and Africa with me. Looks just the ticket ... I dunno - Ivecos, TerrorCans, Delicas, what's going on?

| Looks like another Iveco may be on the way too.....
These 3 are all civilian models, if you look in the background of the yellow truck (mine) then you'll see an ex belgian police 4010wm which is a military spec truck
To see what you can do with an ex mountain rescue Iveco checkout this site search for philflanagan and its about the 4th one down - i can't post links yet sorry.
Parking in Mongolia is interesting..........
Hope you don't mind me plugging this Tom but we have a mailing list for people interested in the Iveco Daily 4x4's but site won't allow me to put link in
Cheers
Rich

| Don't mind in the least, the title of this thread says it all. I think it takes about a week before you can post links - annoying but can't do much about it. I gather the site you're referring to is ... www.philflanagan.net | |

| Don't be daft, it looks nothing like one ... As for this, on a family forum I wouldn't like to describe what it looks like ... | |

| The Iveco has massive support in Europe as its an Italian vehicle built on a 6 Tonne chassis, often downrated to 3.5 tonnes in some markets, this makes it a durable base on which to build an expedition vehicle, its available with various drive configurations including a 4X4 variant, and its a world market vehicle; essentially you can get spares or parts virtually anywhere in the world.
Iveco engines are sturdy units often used in Fiat/Iveco commercial vehicles, and in many other vehicles such as Ford to name just one.
This makes them fairly simple to work on, and able to work in a variety of environments including hostile environments, and for anyone searching for a base vehicle they make a good choice. Parts are not cheap as they are commercial vehicles, but they are cheap for a commercial vehicle.

| Makes sense, far better sense in fact than converting a Range Rover to a camper ... but then again when did common sense ever come into the equation? | |

| Have to say, it looks good to me. Wonder how many years before that's affordable enough to turn into a camper? | |

| oops - lost the quote from above about the belgian police trucks
Not many left by all accounts. Someone on the hubb is going to take a look this weekend
They are cheap, others are selling them at 6-8k euro
These are 24volt, plated at 4450kg i think, if you are lucky they still have the 2 diesel night heaters in them
They are slightly slower than the civvi versions (scary thought)
They are a good size for an overlander and if you compare the price to a defender..........

| €4.750 certainly doesn't seem excessive and they would make great overland campers. | |

| They ARE a cracking vehicle for an "overlander". On the continent you will see wuite a few of them, also Africa and strangely in the USA. It's such a shame though that the crewcab version is so rare and expensive! A nice older one One of the newer ones for lottery winners... This one's no good though! One of the older military ones converted - I LIKE.
