| ADDED BY ADMIN (December 2011): Just to confirm, this proposed show is not taking place. It is however scheduled for February 2013, so watch this space!
Just a heads up, that the second Overland Show will be held on 12th Feb 2012 at Warwickshire Exhibition Centre.
Stick the date in your diary.

| Latest news ... I spoke to the organiser David Round a couple of days ago. He said it's all but certain there will be another show next February, but next week will be "final decision time." As soon as he signs on the dotted line for the venue, he'll revamp the website - www.4x4travelshow.co.uk - as at present all the information relates to last year's show, then inform the magazines, forums, trade, etc. I also mentioned that folk from this forum would be up for running a stand there, so he's aware of the interest. | No wonder he didn't get back to me!
Darn, that's a blow, but I see you've said POSTPONED rather than cancelled. Any chance it still may go ahead at some other time?

| I would suggest it has been postponed for a year.
Must admit I am disappointed about it.

| Pity about the 2012 event being postponed we went to the 2011 show and enjoyed it. it was a great place to meet people and equipment dealers.

I hear someone else is thinking the same thing Funny you should say that Tuggy. Mmmmm, it seems bad new travels fast. Okay, can't say where yet, but it's 99% certain I'll be running a rather large outdoor adventure travel show in the Midlands over the weekend of 29-30 September 2012 - that's three weeks after LRO Peterborough's traditional date. Got to cross the i's and dot the t's first before I can spill the beans. Besides, it's a really good venue (somewhere completely new) and if I did I could be beaten to it by 'other show organisers' far bigger than little ol' me. So, mum's the word for now, but you can definitely add last weekend in September in your 2012 diaries. Based on advice from some traders, I was considering running the event earlier in the year, but (a) trying to find a centrally-located venue around June is extremely difficult, and (b) there would be less time for promoting the event. This way I will have all year to ensure good numbers of visitors turn up. Without a substantial audience, it's not worth running the event at all. The show will also be sensibly priced, both for traders and visitors. I have long preached that current trade rates/camping fees/day visitor prices are excessive, especially given the current economical climate. You can therefore rest assured that it will be an even affordable by everyone, not just the privileged few!!!

You know me Tuggy, never do anything by halves. It will be a BIG show bringing in 'other elements' rather than just four-wheel-drives, although they will go hand in hand with 'our' sector of the market. I've been wanting to run a dedicated adventure travel show ever since I introduced an "Overland Travel" section to Weston Park International 4x4 & Military Show way back in 1999, something which proved to be a great success. Reckon now is the right time, for although folk will tighten their belts in a recession for day to day stuff like eating out, new clothes, furniture, etc., they always seem to find the money for their holidays. Am I wrong, or do others find the same?

| September would be much better for the likes of us as June is in our busy season. Pitch price is VERY important as we are NOT rising our prices for 2012 OR the forseeable future.

That's good, at least we're singing from the same hymn sheet, I guarantee they will be. As for that there Scottishland, I realise there is an area known as Central Scotland, but that's not exactly what I had in mind. The proposed venue is actually 16 miles south of what the Ordnance Survey has calculated to be the centre of England, so it’s not so badly positioned. Bearing in mind the population of Scotland comes in at 5 million and Wales stands at 3 million, it puts it suarely into perspective when you hear that England is around 51 million. No contest! I’m afraid it’s going to another trek south for you.

| It would be great to see you. We could even chat about stuffing your tour flyers into goody bags for the door. See how it goes, good excuse to meet up if nothing else. BTW, you're off the hook as I wouldn't need you to fill your usual role of Off-Road Course Manager as there ain't no off-road course! Not that sort of show, more adventure travel than stuck-in-the-mud. | |
