Old VS New Empty
PostSubject: Old VS New   Old VS New EmptySun Sep 25, 2011 11:14 pm

A good video showing old 4x4 vs a new 4x4. And the old 4x4 is one of my all time favourites.
The test track that they are on looks like a great deal of fun. I would love to take the Terracan around that....

Well, where to begin, it was not a fair comparison of old versus new.

It was a LWB Nissan, which are very long anyway against a SWB Toyota, so already its a win off road for the Toyota

The Toyota ran off road tyres, the Nissan ran road tyres, so another disadvantage.

The guy driving the Nissan obviously has not driven offroad before, so is not experienced, and the guy driving the Toyota appears to be a compatant off road driver.

There was only one winner, the best equipped vehicle with the best driver, and hardly a comparison of old V new.

Yeah, it was pretty un fair. It was not even a particularly good off road test. I thought the patrol did well even if it was on road tyres.
The write up that goes with this video does state that both vehicles are "factory standard". Including the Patrol winch bumper that is offered by Nissan Australia....

Still nice to see the old Toyota j40 Landcruiser in action.

Nothing on a Terracan tho.......... Twisted Evil

I saw the write up and the Toyota is certainly not standard.

Does the Nissan not have descent control?

I think so. Im pretty sure the the 3.0tdi's had HCD but the earlier 2.8's had NO HDC....

Hmmm...reason I asked is that he was very heavy on the brakes on the way down...could have easily lost control doing that7

I watched it again, and I see what you mean.

I could be wrong about the patrol HDC.
The driver might not have engaged it.
The driver might not be well versed in the vehicle controls and might even be a poor driver off road.

I owned a patrol 2.8 LWB in my youth while working for my dad and it was quite good in fields, and general farm land etc.
