As of now i am officially looking for a Unimog, i am looking for a U1200 or U1400 at a reasonable price (bargain) purely as a hobby vehicle for serious off roading.
It will be converted, it will have as a minimum:
Kettle so she can make my coffee. Cooker with at least two rings so she can cook dinner Double bed for the obvious.
PS, i have not told her yet.

EPIC!
Sounds like great fun. If you get permission or when you get It, I will have to meet up and have a look at it. Love those Unimogs.
Could end up becoming the Ultimate Overland/Tourer vehicle???
What is the difference between the two models?

The difference is price.
I don't need permission of her indoors to buy one, but i have to tread carefully about the fitting out.

Well I suppose any Unimog is pretty much the off road king (except for side slopes). Would work well If you turned it in to a tall camper. Similar to the LR 101's that are on this forum. Just a big box on the back with all the trimmings inside.
Dont suppose they do a Automatic Unimog do they?...

Assassin - lucky you.
Just mind which bridges you drive it over! Have you seen this?
Subject: Re: Decision Made Fri Sep 23, 2011 11:34 am
Not seen that, but some of the article is wrong, Mogs cost from around £6500 for the early ones, and well over £100,000 new depending on specification.
Do they do automatics, no and yes is the answer, later models have a pre-select gearbox in which you select the next gear you want, to change you just tap the clutch pedal and it changes up, but some come with a torque convertor transmission.

Did you use photobucket or the image host of this website? photobucket has been acting odd for the last few weeks for me.

Know where you're coming from - 404/406 may as well be a tractor, at least the square cabs are a bit more trucklike to drive.
Does look a smart truck though Jas

I know you have already made the decision to go with a Mog but what about a Volvo c303? From a quick scan of the net the Volvo's are cheaper than a Merc Unimog, I don't even have a clue what the difference is between them. Still the Volvo does look like a capable vehicle.

The decision factored in many vehicles such as the Pinzgauer, Volvo, and many more, but ultimately it comes down to practicality, of all the vehicles they are copies of the Mog and certainly not as good, the Mog has portal axles so good underaxle clearance which the others cannot match, and spares availability for even the oldest of them. In addition the ability to have 8 forward gears as a minimum and the option of 2 X 8 or even 3 X 8 gears, a shuttle gearbox, and diff locks in each axle and a centre diff; combine this with the fact i can use it on my land instead of a tractor makes it a clear winner.
Everything is interchangeable, upgradeable, and if not fitted as standard it can be retro fitted, so the ultimate Lego set for we engineers, and it can have so many attachments fitted as it has hydraulics front, centre, and rear.
