| I'm going to have a little rant here, so bear with me.
That thing is shit. Absolute shit. It's a good concept, it's a good showcase for what can be done - but practical? Bollocks. It's a toy (I like toys the same as any person, but this?).
I was reading about it, getting more and more frustrated at the impracticability of it, and then what really poisoned it for me was the following sentence in the FAQ's - The MaxiMog® vehicle alone can be used by itself for small expeditions that don’t require sleeping, kitchen or toilet facilities.
WTF!! | |

| I am sure the guy who ordered it to his needs to travel around the world for 1-2 years would disagree with you. Andthink the mind of man can conceive the mind of man can achieve. 100 years ago people thought the car would never work. 60 years ago people never ever though that man could stand on the moon. just think would moters will be like in 10 20 or even 50 years time. my rant over have a great day | |

| Exactly.
As a pure exercise in what can be done, it succeeds.
Is it practical and usable? In my experience, no.
And just think of the cost of the Carnet de Passage.

| I've a funny feeling cost ain't going to come into the equation. Know what you saying Mark, but as roamingman quite rightly points out, it was built to order so the guy obviously had specific needs. Where it does all go wrong is that the builders are marketing a 'one-off customised vehicle' as a vehicle that will appeal to everyone by fulfilling all roles - its clear doesn't nor will it ever do so as everyone but everyone have different requirements. What it is though is quality workmanship and design, even if it's not to everyone's taste:- Delving into the site, have you seen the all-wheel-drive trailer that goes with it? Awesome! | |

| Once again it is a subjective issue, what works for one person will not work for another, but at the end of the day, each to his/her own.
Personally i hate Land Rover products as i prefer driving to constantly mending them, but i am not going to criticise anyone for owning a Land Rover product as it is peoples choice and taste.
Mogs begin as a good off road vehicle, and will eat any road based 4X4 off road, but they are designed to be modified or tailored to a customers requirements, much in the same way as we all individually prepare our own vehicles to suit our own requirements, and Germany has many aftermarket products to enhance the Mog at competitive prices.

| That Mog looks ace, so does the one tom put up. ( Peterbilt i think?).
For me as im generaly interested in vehicles and all things like that they are both pritty epic. Not sure how effective it would be off road and overland. Its obviously very heavy, costly to buy and run but like mentioned if you can buy one then running costs are not much of a problem.
But for now ill stick with what I got... Nice link tho!

| Unicat, not heard of that before, their site is pritty impressive. The bonnet and badge looked similar to peterbuilts from america and canada that I saw at a recent Truck show at Birminghm NEC arena.
And all the links were pritty cool, The Mog & the Camel stuff. I do like the camel trophy disco's. I did previously own a 300tdi auto disco for 2 months but due to it having a fue brakedowns and the stupidly poor performance and lack of power it had to get rid of it, which was a shame really as I thought at the time it was pritty dam cool.

| Breakdowns are all part 'n' parcel of owning a Land Rover, they're part of the charm. Our Antipodean cousins have a good name for LR owners - "Dirtybacks" - 'cause they are always under their motors repairing the damn things! Aussies ... don't you just love 'em? | |

| Unfortunatly Ive had a couple like that and my dads RR p38 well, it was in the garage more often. Which was a shame because they do look cool, and the mods avaliable are limitless.
It would have been great if Iveco would sell the Massif range in the uk, The top engine in the range is the 3.0 diesel and its the same lump from the dailys. Pritty much epic in terms of reliability, but like everything there will be a "friday afternoon" vehicle and there will be some that are not as reliable. But generaly speaking for customers you could get the same looks and out of the box off road ability with a engine and parts that generaly better quality for a cheaper price. This would obviously not go down well with Land Rover or their Die Hard fans but no one likes to pay out and have a fault with their vehicle, Regardless of how much time or fun they think stripping a engine is.
Needless to say this is not a huge issue with new owners due to 5+ year warrenty on most vehicles made today and the host of parts avaliable.
But what a tool, if the Defenders and Discoverys had the reliability of other top Mainstream brands. Their 4x4's would have conqured the world............. TJ

| And for many years and decades, but as usual the great car industry of the 70's struck and left the industry starved of development cash for investment in such world beating vehicles of their day.
One conversion we did many of was the transplanting of GMC V8 diesels into them, same BHP and lots more torque, the 12 MPG suddenly went up to 30-35MPG, and they even bolted straight on to the BW gearboxes, although the torque converter needed revalving to suit the new combination.

| That sounds pritty epic, a GMC V8!
Has anyone seen the Ford 4x4 vans that they make in america/canada? I cant recall the name but I reccon the would be great for overland travel. They are quite a sizeable vehcile, ive even seen a fue as rescue vehicles in cold climates like canada & sweeden etc with 40inch snow tyres. Rip out all the seats and you could get sink, toilet, small double bed in them, could really work well. The petrol v8 lump its bound to have might present a fueling problem but its like the next size up to one of those Mitsi delcia's.
