Only read one book cover to cover in my life, seriously, and that was nothing whatsoever to do with 4x4's or overlanding. It was about the VW Beetle 'cause in the early 70`s I had a 1954 bug. Mind you, even that took nearly six months to complete, kept leaving it for a week/fortnight then going back to it every so often.

Really have no patience with books, far too relaxing. Prefer the moving image, or I can trawl through the internet for hours - that's reading a'plenty!

It makes sense to try to read stuff relevant to trips you might be doing, or would like to do. Doesn't matter how dated they are, they give you a "feel" for the region Very Happy

With that in mind, I've read all Len Beadells books, stories of when he was surveying and building the "bomb" roads through central Aus. I've also read lots of books about the early Aus explorers....and who can forget the Leyland Brothers Very Happy

Not actually reading anything at the moment though

I've read all of Len Beadell's books - all of them were an excellent read. His adventures in the outback with his 80" Land Rover were amazing, I can't reccommend his books enough, even if your not a LR fan!

It's one of my ambitions to drive at least one of his roads when we get to Oz.

Quiet for a Tuesday.......................TOM SHEPPARD

This is my second reading,as I skimmed it first time.
Very, very interesting, especially as I have covered some of the same ground as the author.
This makes it more enjoyable to read as I can picture the people and places.

Well worth a read.

The Philosipher and the Wolf by Mark Rowlands.

Can thoroughly recommend "call of the Wild" by Guy Grieve, and also "the Good Life" by Dorien Amos - both are a similar sort of thing but helped me sort my head out when I was stuck in a job I hated (whereas now am in a job I love again cheers1 )

Had a bit of a book buying session as am working away quite a bit at the mo - got Chris Scott's new book, Overland Handbook , which I'm quite liking (and a mate of mine has a ection of his own in too!).

Haven't started on the other two yet, but have got The Good Life gets better, by Dorian Amos and One Man's Wilderness; an Alaskan Odessey, by Sam Keith.

I remember watching Mondo Enduro on one of the sky channels many moons ago, you've got to admire those boys selling there houses and jacking in good jobs to go on a trip of a lifetime with no back up tem, eat you're hearts out Ewan McGregor and that other bloke, Boorman I think his name is.
