For those heading to Morocco this autumn, there are general elections scheduled for 07 October. It should not affect overlanders too much, but there will probably be increased security on election day and when results are announced. Apparently there have been calls by some politicians to close Erg Chebbi to 4x4s, camel trains and tented camps.
Morocco is interesting politically for those that want to read up on it. A Kingdom like Jordan but with a growing parliament. Two main parties, one Islamist and one more secular but they get along reasonably well. You get university students and civil society groups protesting sometimes in coastal cities, so keep and eye out if you are in he big cities around that time. Morocco is trying to rejoin the AU, so trying to be well behaved.
Just FYI...
