The land of fire and ice 2016

2 people 1 landrover over land and sea to Iceland, September 2016

I have had a fascination with Iceland for a little while now a thought that is replicated by my better half Steph so after much deliberation and many changes of route we have scrapped our original plan of Northern / eastern Europe trip in favour of Iceland.

The current plan involves us leaving in mid September and returning in October of 2016

There will be a few tourist destinations I expect but, these are not high on the priority list as they can be done should we ever return by plane. Howevr, the east of the island and the interior has my full attention

I like my plans to be as loose as possible as I'm not one for detailed itinerary, how can you fully explore when your on a tight detailed schedule. The only schedule that I plan to keep to is the ferry schedule for getting on and off the island
However the journey to and from Denmark is yet to be thought about and as I have never been north of the Belgian border we would love suggestions as to what interesting places and sights can be found on our journey to and from the boat at Hirtshals.

In the mean time I have a 110 to ready for this years trip to Scotland.

Any knowledge and pictures for inspiration would be greatly received.

Quick update as I have been lurking and not posting whilst trying to get the maintenance on the 110 up together after a HGF

So, The boat is booked and it's officially on. The excitement is barely containable

We are on a 4/5week round trip with 2 weeks of exploring on the island. Unfortunately we are going to miss AO this year as we are away throughout September.

A few creature comforts need to be sorted in the LR in the upcoming months as the current setup is not quite working .


The plan

Get to the boat
Have fun
Enjoy the scenery
Try to avoid the main touristy stuff
And don't miss the boat back

I will be keen to hear how the trip goes. I am always looking south to warmer places...which makes sense as my truck has a softop...or more often no top. But maybe one day I could slap a pick-up ruck cab on and try something a bit more frosty. No advice on Denmark, I have only really been to Copenhagen. Good luck on the kitting out the 110...
