Sleeping-plattforms - how to sleep inside Empty
PostSubject: Sleeping-plattforms - how to sleep inside   Sleeping-plattforms - how to sleep inside EmptyMon May 26, 2014 6:57 pm

Overall there are more people out there, who use a tent, rooftent, trailer and so on. But some of us plan to sleep too inside of the car. This need a careful planning about, how to use the limited space.

Here i try to do an kind of compilation of sleeping plattform samples. Many links to websites and comunities who did their own collection of sleeping plattforms.

Here you will find many ideas, how others solve their plans to sleep inside with 1-3 Persons.

Brilliant. Thanks for posting. I am planning on making my frame out of 40mm tuxbe (free from work). Quite lightweight compared with 75x75mm timber. The disadvantage is stuff can get lost underneath. Front panel to dashboard will be a slot in with middle panel being hinged. Passenger seat will recline flat and drivers seat as forward as possible. Gives 2.3m one side and 1.8m behind driver. 8ft roof rack up top. Cooker mounted on rear door. Led battery lights, think that's it!

Have look at this material ridgeback - www.omnia-cs.co.uk/panelsc2.php

Scroll down to panels. I will have this built up as cupboards and units in my camper. Lightweight, strong, you couldn't ask for better.

I've no affiliation to this company whatsoever, it's just I believe this is the way to go.

And ...

Although you wouldn't need this, for my RR I want to install this as flooring - www.omnia-cs.co.uk/flooringd1.php

Makes perfect sense!  cheers

Looks good stuff Tom,
Mr Frosty not good on insulation, quite a few mistakes made by who ever built it, seriously considering if we keep him long time to redo the inside.  clinking teacups

Looks like good stuff but I already have my base. Chipboard! Not ideal but free! The design will allow it to be swapped if necessary.

Hi Tom
It looks like good stuff------but I couldn't see the insulation figures of it, these would be very important to consider building a 'camper box' out of it-------the best at the moment seems to be sandwich rigid foam ??

Can see what you're saying, but don't forget that I already have the fibreglass shell, so it wouldn't be for the skin of the camper (this I will probably insulate with basic loft-type wool insulation). What i was thinking of is the actual units. Made from a type of plastic, the honeycomb sheets can be heat-welded to create lightweight sink units, cupboards, beds, etc. Weight is the key factor when tackling sand, mud, etc. so although chipboard may be cheap, in the long term it can be false economy.

The only other thing I may use the Omina plastic for is the floor. There is a thicker version for this, so if the 1973 timber flooring is on its way out, this plastic may be the answer. We'll see, have to do a lot of homework first before deciding.

Personally I use two 15l Engel Boxed, one as fridge, one as cooling box. Compared to other brands i safed a lot of height. From Waeco is a "Drawer-Style" cooling box (non fridge) availabel who allows you to safe much more height at sample - than in my build.

There is no perfect solutions arround - just good compromises.
