Hi, I've joined the forum to get some feedback as I'm buying a truck to live in and wonder what all you experts reckon

Details Mercedes 1017 4x4 dropside cargo truck

Engine: MB OM352A 6 cylinder turbo diesel
Steering Power steering LHD available
Tyres 22.50/7.50 x 22.50
Max-Load 5,400kg
Electrical System 24 volt
Length 7.20m
Height 2.88m
Width 2.47m
G.V.W. 12,200kg
I'm planning on building a box for it, the MOD sell these for around £15,000
Any one bought one?

Hi and welcome. You've got yourself an excellent base truck to build as an overland truck.

As for the ex MOD Comms box, I have one on my DAF, think you must have made a typo as they go for around £1000-£1500. Make sure you purchase one with the extended roof giving you just over 6' internal height.

Regards, John.

hi there
welcome to the forum, although i have no experience of the 4x4 version of these trucks i have done plenty of work on the two wheel drive trucks used by haulage companies,if memory serves me the only real common faults were accelarator linkages seizing and clutch release arm pivot seizing both regular service items, other than that very robust trucks.
