| Thanks for that Surfy, although there is a lot of documentation there. Think I would rather go blind, more of a challenge that way! | |

| We try to get too a bit more thrill and to get a route who is not very usual: But the areas are getting smaller and smaller, where you can travel and arent able to optain some informations before. And even when you think you are on a less travelled road - you will recognice after a while, that you just had`nt searched well enough about. To be honestly: overall it is useful, to know what are at sample these usual "bribe" szenarios in africa. What paperworks does it need. But that is up to you, if you like to try it blind and pay, or to have some up to date informations about the area you plan to travel. The evolution shows another way, than these blind try`s. What not means that blind isnt fun. Surfy | |

I think the "usual" stuff. They try to get some cash out of you. But when your papers are ok you can avoid to cash them, you just need patience and sometimes up to 20min chatting to the guys. Before they get annoyed and let you pass Unfortunately you mostly have 3 steps on each side of the border - so sometimes it will consume a bit of your time to pass through. Surfy

| Nothing much has changed then over the years, borders are still hassle with the border guards/police all-powerful as they try to subsidise their meager wages. Would I do the same if I were in their shoes? Probably!
As you say, patience is the key, plus don't give in to a back-hander (unless absolutely necessary) as it all it does it make it ten times worse for those that follow. Ever border is different, consequently the way one has to deal with it has to be different. That's life, it's all part of overland travel.
