| Hi and I just want to wish you Good Luck with the site. However, I do not want to rain on your parade, but is there really a need for a dedicated 4x4 overland site? I only ask, because I am a member on various other 4x4 forums, and as far as I can see, the subject of overlanding is already fairly well covered. To take one random site: www.landrovernet.comhere is a dedicated Expedition section that covers all aspects of planning, tips and experiences on equipment, routes to use and routes to avoid, experiences and useful information on vehicle experiences, not just land rovers. all provided by over 18000 active members in more than 6100 posts. Anyway, I wish you all the best and hope the site survives, but have problems seeing what you can provide that isn't already available on other sites. Good luck! 4x4user | |

| I think you have a valid point there...which is why I want to hang about and see if the community here builds up, if not it will be another low useage forum and I will be off again!
I think as a single place for all overland stuff is a good idea...you give landrovernet as an example...I could argue agaisnt that...there are plenty of people who have no interest in Land Rovers so would never consider signing up to view the expeditiion section on landrovernet. I have also found that the views on the expedition section on various forums is fairly low and not a lot gets posted on there.

| Agree, rustyrhino, but when people first start looking at the idea of overlanding, then there are certain associations that come to mind. One is Land Rover, the other is Land Cruiser or Toyota in gen., so it is natural for peeps to search for those first. | |

| I guess you are right...but then to many, the car is only part of the bigger picture and might be more likely to sign up on an overland forum than a specific car-type forum. Maybe, maybe not! | |

| Thanks y'all, first for your curiosity, second for posting ... whether they be searching questions or not.
The way I see it -
1. Most of the Continent has overland-type forums, and up until now we didn't. WE HAVE NOW!
2. There is decent stuff on these Continental forums to which I refer, but frustratingly 95% of it is not in English.
3. We here in the UK have a BIG disadvantage when it comes to 'overlanding', we don't have desert or wilderness on our doorsteps - the Continentals do, therefore there is bound to be more interest in the subject in mainland Europe and Scandinavia. For some unfathomable reason, the English Channel is a massive barrier to many Brits, I really don't know why?
4. Surely it's up to us if we want a forum like this or not, so I'm sure natural selection will prevail. If it's required it will survive and prosper, if it's not it will fail - simple! But to grow the word needs to spread. IF you are a member of a 4x4 club, off-road group, forum or message board, please give "4x4 Overland Travel" a mention.
Have to say though that it's been a great start with more joining up every day (especially as the launch on Christmas Day can't really be counted as a 'proper' day as most had family commitments) so providing the momentum is maintained, the future looks bright.

| Hi Tom have to disagree (a bit) about no wilderness, what about a trip around the country Wales mouintians, some greeat greenlanes and fantastic scenary, then on to the Lake district again just has good as on the Continent,up to the Highlands no real greenlanes but great mountains passes Lochs, down to Yorshire moors some more greenlanes, lots of greenlane routes around centre England, not for getting dartmore and salsbury plain. So have maybe you have done all these places, but not all have so A Challange for you to come up with a Rally around our Great Island agine not forgetting Irealnd.ps you know i can not spell, so to every body else i appolagise. | |

| No problem, I can't spill either! Round Britain, hardly 'overlanding' though is it? The great thing about travelling abroad is the language difference, the weird foods, the strange oddball clothes they wear, basically it's a whole different culture and way of life. Strewth, I've just described a trip through Wales, Scotland or the Black Country!!! You may have a point mate! | |
