Local insurance in Tunisia for my Vehicle

My UK insurance company will not extend my policy to Tunisia. I have heard you can buy local insurance at the port on arrival. However when I arrive it will be at 22.00, so guess the office will be closed.
Can anyone who has been to Tunisia recently confirm the office is still there at the port, and if it is shut is there any alternative? I.e. can I buy it in town?

FYI... I have been told by my contact in Tunisia, that the port office is open 24 hrs, so should be able to purchase local insurance on arrival. I have also been told that some ferry compaines also offer this service.

Thanks for sharing that. Obviously nobody on here has been to Tunisia lately, hence the lack of replies. Hardly surprising given the terrain and space in Morocco, plenty to explore wituout having to venture further away from the ferries to Spain

Yeah agree Tom, Morocco is an easier option, but I like a challenge!!  
I have been to Morocco twice, so fancied somewhere different, however you have NO IDEA what a major logistical nightmare it has been to plan this next trip to Tunisia!!!
Work rota, Ferry schedules, School holidays all had to be worked around!

I finally managed to get a plan together after months of working at it.
We are traveling through France, Italy and down to Sicily, and have a week to get to Palermo where the ferry leaves from. We are meeting Overland Junkies in the South before heading over the desert, then back over to Palermo, and speed up to Rome where the kids are flying back to get to UK in time to start school. I then have a week to get back to UK before flying back out to India for work.
Some friends are also flying down and meeting me in Rome to join me back up to UK.

Well that's the 'plan' anyway.................. :shock: 

Lets see what actually happens......
