| Hello to all, Sadly my V8. 110 has packed up. The fuel pump has died.
I was towed to my local garage this morning, and after placing a small mechanical fuel lift pump, into the fuel line, the V8 fired up straight away.
My question is this: I know the electric fuel lift pump is inside the tank, and the only way to get at it, is by dropping the tank from the body. Does anyone know if an external pump, secured to the chassis rail, would be available, so that the tank can remain untouched.
All advice appreciated.
Ed

| Contact a company called "Vehicle Wiring Products" in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, they do two fuel pumps of which one is a delivery pump which can be sited close to the fuel tank and will pump fuel along to the injection pump, the other is a suction pump which can be sited near or on the engine and will suck over longer distances. Both are electric and are simple to plumb in. | |

| Thank you for the replies to my post.
Hi Tuggy, happy new year to you both.
My mechanic wants to drop the tank, and have a good look at the pump.
I trust him, so I am letting him get on with it, an original LR pump for the V8 from Paddocks, is going to cost around £300. but I guess that is just how it is !.
I don't want a cheap aftermarket £40 one, as I don't want to risk it, especially as I am planning to drive her across Eastern Europe in July.
It's going to be a very expensive month, I think. | |

| Ed - no way mate. £300!!! On the Paris-Dakar Rally I had two Facet fuel pumps fitted on my Rangie, they were brilliant. Only really needed one but you double up on everything just in case one goes down. Just 'ad a butchers at www.fuelsystem.co.uk - the very same company who supplied them free of charge to me as a sponsorship deal way back in 1988 - and even now you can buy a 'Cylindrical Pump' suitable for a Landy for around the £80 mark. Obviously ask them first for the right one, but it will certainly save you money. Of what I remember there are only a couple of wires involved, so fuel pumps are highly interchangeable (providing the fuel lines are the same diameter - they normally are), unlike something specific like a starter motor where it has to be the exact item for the job. Gotta be worth a phone call surely? As for travelling long distances overland, a spare fuel pump would definitely be in my box of spares. Let's face it, along with a water pump for instance, it's an essential item to keep a motor running. Again, being a generic item you can swap between motors, even if you don't need it for this trip, it's always there in another vehicle should you need a replacement in the middle of nowhere. It is also small and light, another good reason to take a spare. | |
