PostSubject: Terracan Key Fob   Mon Dec 05, 2011 8:38 pm

Does anyone (mugwump) know where I can get a new or used Key fob for a Terracan?

I have spoken to Hyundai and they are quoting £199 for a new key + programing for immob.

My current key works ok, I had to replace the battery but the screws that held it together are destroyed. ATM it is held together by good old electrical tape.
Needless to say its function is limited.

Any help is appreciated.

If its just the screw holes then help is at hand as repairs are fairly simple and cheap.

Using a small drill bit, ream out the holes where the screws fit to remove the rubbish inside, coat the screws with a fine coat of thin grease, mix some epoxy and fill the holes and insert the screws straight, leave overnight until the epoxy hardens then just unscrew the screws and wipe off the grease, simples.

Very easily, its called a manufacturers profit or in technical parlance, external revenue streams generating singular excessive profitibility.

I know what you mean. In the end I managed to re-thread the hole and use a new screw so that saved £££££. At the moment the Terracan has developed a strange way of unlocking/locking.
When I press the unlock button on the key fob I have 3-5 seconds to open the door or else the doors lock. Alarm and immobiliser work fine, once you unlock the vehicle the alarm goes off even if the doors lock themselves.

Its going to the mechanic next Wednesday just to see what he thinks it is, depending on cost I will have a fiddle here and there in an attempt to get it sorted.
Its not really a problem just an inconvenience.

If you have replaced the battery you may need to synchronise the key fob with the vehicles system again, this procedure varies from vehicle to vehicle so you will need to refer to the handbook to see how its done.

Must be the time of year for this prob on terracans have something very similar going on at the moment. Doors relock within a second of being opened if quick can open door but all other doors relock until you place key in ignition. Also just noticed rear door relay for central locking going on and off, then settles. Have not had time today to look at it but suspect there is water in the rear door causing relay to short out. Will remove cover to door tomorrow and dry it out to see if that helps.

Cheers

Japanese technology eh? No

I can say this as the Range Rover soon-to-be-ambulance is devoid of all forms of electronic wizardary. In 1973 the word 'remote' meant distant, and the accronym 'I.T.' stood for In a Trance - something to do with hippies smoking pot!

Vehicles + electronics = a BIG hole in yer wallet!

Don't suppose I'm helping much?

Thanks buddy scratch

I duno what it is. It is a fault but not really a problem at the moment and so far apart from a rear diff seal and small oil patch on the top of the engine there have been no problems or drama's, all is well. The issue is soon to be fixed tho.[/quote]

Technology certainly adds flavor to everyday events. Smile Whilst we had the Hilux my mother bought me a Subaru Legacy as a surprise birthday present. At the time I was on 12 hour shifts and a second car came in handy. Driving an all wheel drive for the first time was an interesting experience because it gave the feeling of riding on rails. Right from the start I sensed a trapped feeling when the central locking secured all the doors soon after driving off. pale It was not long before the system gave up the ghost when one of the cams quit. Still no great loss.

For peace of mind I took the precaution of carrying a hammer in the car in case we found ourselves in a precarious situation and the central locking had a hissy fit. Never needed it of course but.....

Fast forward a number of years, the Subaru had been replaced by the MX5 and the Hilux was on the point of making way for the D2. So brought home the D2 and had a quick scan of the owners manual. That evening the wife and I went to a birthday party about half an hours drive away. When we arrived at the venue I used the fob to lock the car. Everything seemed cool with the flash of the indicator lights and the accompanying beep(s).
Memory gets a bit foggy here but I think I used the key to unlock the car and hopped in. Damned alarm went off. Panic as there were some houses nearby and it was midnight. doh Somehow I silenced it and drove home. When we got to our gate way I went to get out to open it and nothing happened. confused Doors wouldn't open. No matter what I attempted the car wouldn't let go. scratch The best I could come up with initially was to climb out of the opened window; open the gate; climb back in...etc etc.

We could see the headlines. Couple found captive and emaciated in truculent Land rover. pale Luckily I had the manual in the door pocket so the wife suggested SHE geek read the instructions, study as I was too busy cussing. angry

Knock me over with a feather, she sorted it. doh Embarassed

With the D2 you lock it with the key when a window is left slightly open for the dog, and opened using the fob. Even without a window open but the dog inside you still need to do the same so that the internal movement sensors are made inoperable. scratching chin Apart from that you just use the fob. Luckily I have a spare. Hope I don't have reason to need it as it lives in a drawer at home. Shocked

Of course with the Suzuki and the 90 they just have wind down windows and a key for the door.

Terracan Key fob is now fixed and I managed to fix the central door Locking. On the drivers door, the solenoid on the lock latch was shorting out, I ordered the part from Hyundai that cost £4.50 +p&p and swapped them over. Problem solved. All seems to be ok ill post later on if the problem returns.
