Andrea, I think you miss the point of overland travel. It's to get away from hotels by getting off the beaten track. We like to camp alongside or actually in our vehicles. I will however let your post stay for now and it's hardly offensive (mortages, viagra or loans we don't need) just to gauge reaction, but I can't see it staying for too long.

TOM not everbody born and raised in London is a Cockney, you have to be born within the sound of Bow Bells, and Bow Bells are not in Bow. Laughing clinking teacups

Cor blimey indeed, me ol' china plate - I sound like Dick Van Dyke!) About the only thing I miss about London is pie, mash & liquor. See, we all eat wierd things wherever we come from, and the liquor I have to say is pretty wierd. Originally it was made with water drained from the stewed eels ... nice!

You know that and I know that, but a lot others wouldn't. It's St Mary-le-Bow church, not located in bow as a lot of folk assume, it's in the City of London off Cheapside. According to Wikipedia:-

The traditional core districts of the East End are Bethnal Green, Whitechapel, Spitalfields, Stepney, Wapping, Limehouse, Poplar, Clerkenwell, Aldgate, Shoreditch, Millwall, Hackney, Hoxton, Shoreditch, Bow and Mile End. "The Borough" to the south of Waterloo, London and Tower Bridge were also considered Cockney before redevelopment all but extinguished the local working class areas, and now Bermondsey is the only Cockney area south of the Thames, although Pearly Kings and Queens can be found as far out as Peckham and Penge.

As I originally come from Penge in South London I suppose that makes me a 'almost a Cockney', I think? scratch So I suppose when my mate from Wolverhampton takes the mick about my accent, technically he's right, sort of! scratch scratch

Pearly Kings and Queens can be found in a lot of London Bourghs but that does not make them Cockney's.
And yes the liquor was from the eels water.

But thier are a lot of people from diferant parts of London who call them selves Cockney's. but they are kidding themselves.

So if you wish to be a cockney so be it. lol! clinking teacups

As it happens I have never called myself a Cockney before as I go with the 'within sound of Bow Bells' theory, but it's fun exploring the history. As you say, a lot of folk do though when they are nothing like true Cockneys - suppose we all want to be 'accepted', it's the tribal gene in us.

I do however still use a lot of rhyming slang, probably from my days in the building trade. Can't help it, just slips out. Nice to confuse a Georgie or Scouser for a change. Razz
