Anyone tried the Hydrogen Generator Empty
PostSubject: Anyone tried the Hydrogen Generator   Anyone tried the Hydrogen Generator EmptyMon Dec 31, 2012 3:55 am

A good friend found this in his works garage and thought of me. I had been talking to him about the fuel consumption and lack of power of my Leyland DAF
The unit was originally fitted to a modern DAF and did not give the company the returns they wanted so they removed it and as they say "the rest is history"
Most of the internals (relays and fuse holders etc) were corroded. I replaced them and added a couple of warning lights for good measure. The gauges and permanent fixing will come after the test run. I finished fitting it on it's temporary base today and run it on fast idle for 10 minutes, it started to bubble the gas so watch this space. scratching chin

Is this the old generate hydrogen and feed it into the air intake of the engine type thing

If so think back to why the company actually removed it - you may be adding extra weight and pull on the alternator for nothing

Real contentious one here, in theory they work, but in practice they seem to have many problems unless the hydrogen is injected into the cylinders at the right time, Aussie lorries tried them and they were brilliant with certain engines and a flop with others and many were removed for not making the returns on investment. On many engines they had issues with hydrogen being fired into the induction and often it led to fires from the heat generated from many items under the bonnet and many lorries were lost.

Thanks for your feed back.

Yes, it is the old system of pushing the Hydrogen into the air intake. To say "old system" a guy was selling the exact same thing at Billing last year (if your on line Julian!) for around £5k fitted. He said that they were tried and tested but the jury is still out until the test run. The other problem with checking the consumption is £600 to fill the tank!!

If I haven't got to much of a hangover tomorrow I'll see how she performs up one of the hills, then I'll take the truck out.

Happy New Year to you all. cheers1

£5,000 affraid Ouch! Didn't think they were as much as that.

Didn't think so. Just been trawling the net and found this @ roughly half price ...

www.hybridmotorconversion.co.uk/faq/#what-does-the-system-cost

4 hour installation, de-ionised (distilled) water top-up costs just 80p every 400 miles. What are we waitng for?

Excellent site, thanks for sharing. I noticed the cost was up to £5k so for HGV’s I think we are in the same ball park. If you click on “News” on the site it shows a very similar unit to mine, a little stream lined but the basics look the same.

I’ve just found a business card the guy gave to me at Billing, Hydrogen Fuel Technology Ltd. hydrogenfueltechnology@gmail.com they are based in Herts.

Tom, on another note, I posted my cheque for the AO13 and hope it reaches you before the 50% deadline.

And yet another note! Are you going to Olympia in January for the Overland show?

John.

Fair enough, I was thinking 4x4 size units. Talking of which, this company down in Devon (who incidentally were traders at my last Jap n' Jeep Jam show - they are a good bunch of lads) can supply units for 4x4's at £995 all in! At that price I feel it's really worth investigating the benefits/savings that can be gained. The price of fuel nowadays, it wouldn't take very long to pay for itself. Again, loads of interesting reading on their site:-

Hydrogen Cars Ltd. - www.milesmoreonwater.co.uk/introduction_85.html

Can't find a website for Hydrogen Fuel Technology Ltd. in Herts at all, just company information sites stating they were formed in April 2012.

Good timing for AO`13 as it happens, received your Booking Form this morning. Ta! thumbsup

Yep, I'll visiting Olympia, yet to decide which day. Shame really as I would have loved to book an actual pitch there, but the prices for Trade Stands are horrendous. Do you know which day you'll be there?

PostSubject: Re: Anyone tried the Hydrogen Generator   Anyone tried the Hydrogen Generator EmptyTue Jan 01, 2013 10:48 pm

TRUE OR FALSE

Remember reading some where that Hydrogen Fuel, can also damage the atmosphere,
because water vapor comes out of the exhaust, condenses then risers up into the clouds that inturn makes rain, so we get more rainfall. And no it was not on April the 1st
So if all cars changed to Hydrogen.

Also my believe is we are not the cause of global warming in the way the government says. Cows produce more bad gas than all the cars, HGV's, buses, planes and trains.
It is all the government's in other countries allowing companies to destroy the LUNGS of this planet TREES, trees take in carbon monoxide and gives us oxygen.

We Dilys and myself have planted over 34,500 trees and a hedge approx 1and a half miles. So hopefully done are bit, but it is the great countries, China and the US + Rusher that do not care, so any think we do will not be enough.

Also if you look back in time over the life of this planet, it has changed its climate all by itself with out are help.

My rant for 2013 clinking teacups

1st obvious question if if it works so well why isn't it fitted to every production car/van/lorry , costs would be minute if doing it on such a scale. There is a guy on ebay selling the kit for 27 quid to do this. He is quoting a jump of 25% in fuel economy if you don't trash it . Research papers seem to indicate it may work to a certain extend (10-15% power) but can raise engine temperatures and have an effect on other exhaust gases.

I am sceptical to say the least, just had an intercooler fitted to my truck and thats tried and tested technology, pick it up this coming weekendso will see what that gives

This is the old browns gas theory. Yes you can extract hydrogen from water by passing current through it but it takes more energy in the form of electricity than you produce in hydrogen. So your alternator draws more current which reduces mpg and you are back at square one. I'm not saying it does not work as it can but you wont see any gains unless you are powering the generator via something like a solar panel or wind turbine. I agree that hydrogen is the fuel of the future though, much better than biodiesel or some electric battery affair. Good luck with the experiments Smile

I looked into that system on e bay 3 years ago, the only difference is the price has dropped.

I've always been a fuel tanks half full not half empty kind of bloke so I'll keep positive until it's tried and tested and keep you updated.

I don't think the engine will suffer to much, these straight six Cummins have gone through a lot worse during their MOD life I'm sure.

PostSubject: Re: Anyone tried the Hydrogen Generator   Anyone tried the Hydrogen Generator EmptyThu Jan 03, 2013 12:35 pm

Roamingman:

You are wrong, the water vapour comes out of the exhaust, rises, then condenses and falls back as rain. Atmospheric conditions dictate the extent of this reaction as low barometric pressures and damp conditions cause this affect at low levels and hot and dry conditions cause it to happen at higher levels.

Is it clean? no, not really, its just cleaner then traditional fossil fuels according to experts, unfortunately those alleged experts all have agendas which is the massive honey pot of funding they receive from the Government year on year for telling the right story by manipulating facts to suit the Government message or agenda. Any form of fossil or other burned fuel produces emissions and they only use a careful selection of these emissions and unfortunately most of those produced by the combustion of hydrogen are ignored when it comes to vehicle emissions.

Producing hydrogen does consume a lot of electrical power and if we assume 746 watts = 1 HP and for an engines alternator to produce this maximum from the alternator its consuming around 4 times this to produce this power, around 3 Kilowatts, this applies an additional 3Kw load to the engine just to drive the alternator at full capacity, even with nothing on during a nice summers day it will still consume a lot of power. If we turn to winter and have the lights, heaters, and many other electrical loads in a number of cases the alternator cannot cope and a larger unit will need fitting, or if you retain the original alternator you won't produce the demand and efficiency drops as it cannot provide enough electrical power to meet demand as lights and heaters are consuming lots of power.

Thank you Assassin.
Did not think about electric trikkity,
Worse than I thought, just knew the government would stick there meddling in, and get people to say what they want people to know. Not what they need to know.

Roamingman:

Unfortunately, yes, the Government have set the emissions parameters to favour CO2 and basically ignores all other emissions, basically it is at the behest of the EU and its the best way of taxing people, and the most lucrative, it works simply by applying a formula which is the cheapest and easiest to administer and raises the most taxation for the least outlay for the EU and every member state.

Experts have measured the entire environmental lifecycle of all traditional fossil fuels such as petrol and diesel and found they produce less lifecycle emissions than hydrogen, propane, butane, and many other gases which can be produced to fuel engines, and much of this high emissions levels are produced in the gases manufacture, but as they don't measure the actual lifecycle emissions due to tax before fact, it shows gases as lower emissions producers. They are aided by many allegedly reputable organisations who use the Government parameters for measurements and these organisations are typical snouts in the trough organisations in receipt of huge subsidies or grants from both the Government and the EU, what they are doing is simple, they are being paid using our money (taxpayers) to lie and deceive us, its that simple. Those organisations who don't comply and are in receipt of grants and subsidies suddenly find their funding cut or stopped altogether if they produce fact and truth as this is not the message the Government or EU wants to hear, and by doing this they can use copious amounts of misinformation against a few giving true information and play the numbers or balance of probability game to con and deceive the British and European public.

This is part of a larger picture, ask a simple question of why is everyone favouring electricity for the future and none of the other viable energy sources? the answer is remarkably simple, the money has moved into this area, basically the very few richest people of the world have invested heavily in electricity and they want and will get a return on their investment, hence electric cars as an example. Why electric cars which cater to a minority when fuel cells are as practical as petrol or diesel cars and have none of the limitations of electric cars, why have Government and the EU invested heavily in electric vehicles and virtually ignored fuel cell technology and only acted to provide very limited funding as a token gesture.
Here lies the problem, the few with money control the world, they control the EU, and virtually every world Government and this means they always get their way, and by having only one form of fuel for the future they have and retain control of the masses.

Over the last two decades I have monitored the money movement around the world, and is the reason I am successful, theres no trick or anything complex to it and once you see where certain money is moving and into which industry you know what the future is going to bring.

PostSubject: Re: Anyone tried the Hydrogen Generator   Anyone tried the Hydrogen Generator EmptyFri Jan 04, 2013 2:28 am

To add to the above:

Currently the world runs on oil, if this large effective cartel is broken it gives rise to a massive shift in power and control, and the money men who have control want more control by forming their own cartel, basically the world oil market is fragmented and many people have an influence in the price of oil, the Middle East, America, and now Russia and the former communist countries. If the money men of the world form their own cartel using electricity they have a much larger market as electricity will become the prime energy source and will be used for everything from cooking to running our vehicles, thus a much larger market share than petrol and diesel, and much fewer people will control more of the world, its energy, and electricity will have much less competition that oil currently does.
