| Well, having completed three trips to Morocco now, I am pondering where to set my sights next. I am still in love with the desert, and would love to do Algeria, but the security forces there have locked down all the remote areas I would want to see. Same with Tunisia. There are other deserts to see: the Kalahari, Gobi, Simpson, Atacama...and I intend to get around to all of them.
At the moment, the two under consideration are Mongolia (and the Gobi) or Southern Africa (the Kalahari and possibly a bit of the Sudanese Sahara).
Mongoli...downside is the long transit there and back across Europe & Russia but once in Mongolia it should be a pretty cool trip.
South/East Africa...ship Tembo down to Cape Town and ship back from Mombasa so that there is no long transit to the start line but there is the shipping cost.
Both would probably be 3-4 month trips. My next window for a trip is 2018, so lots of time to ponder and then get planning.

| I've alway fancied Mongolia but like you mentioned it's a long trip to get to the start.
After our last desert trip I have been think seriously whats next.
I have done some really nice european road trips over the last 6 years but it's getting a bit tiresome doing them alone the wife simply doesn't like extended trip in the 110 a weeks is about all she will tolerate.
I have always fancied driving down to Greece and leaving the truck somewhere and island hopping but the only way I can see this coming off as a couple is with a more comfortable vehicle and a caravan (see my post in other vehicles other than Land Rovers)
I am just about to set sail for France again in a couple of days and while there I'm going to look at routes for both the Western Isles of Scotland for 2017 and the possibility of the Greece trip in 2018.
As always cost is the biggest part of any trip and the budget normally dictates the length of the trip a caravan will greatly add to the trips cost as the need for more nights in campsite in more urban areas of europe would be a necessity and the distances to cover would also have an impact on fuel costs, hence the need for a more road friendly vehicle. As always compromises have to be reached.
Added to my need to get away and explore other places and the wife's love of sun and beaches I can also see trips to Australia, New Zealand, South East Asia and a return trip to China being added to the plans for the future but these will probably be non vehicle based trips with a mix of back packing, hostel and hotel accommodation.
But keep us posted on your decisions for destinations James I would be interested to see where Tembo will take you.

| Me too James. Currently in Thailand, next is India, then Vietnam, then on to Malaysia for the Rainforest Challenge as Media (approx. 10 days in the jungle - http://www.rainforest-challenge.com/?p=9326 ) then meet up with my friends of the LROCM (Land Rover Owners Club of Malaysia) and back in the jungle for a few days as their 110's on portal axles are awesome! I mention all this as either in Nov-Dec 2017 I'll either be visiting Japan, Philippines and Korea, or perhaps join you guys for something totally different - Gobi or Kalahari. However, need to sort out the Orangemobile before attempting anything like that ... not so much the interior, but making certain it's going to be reliable. That said it hasn't let me down so far, but Spain isn't quite the same as Mongolia!!! | |

| I'll produce a write up for Europe 4x4 Mag, so it'll be pretty comprehensive. It's all play!!!
Looking forward to having a curry in India. I realise it'll be very different to the ones in England, so I'm keeping a very open mind. Like experimenting, so not a problem.

| Yep, keep us posted Kevin. Another motorhome would probably be a good option. Then you could take yourself and Dilys off someplace warm in the winter if the mood struck. | |

| Jess and I have been discussing options for the next big trip. This year we are going to just stay local and explore the UK. We have planned to take a week in Wales after the HUBB in June. Maybe a trip up to Scotland in July. But I am also going to spend this year getting her 90 set up for overlanding. We figure that if my son wants to come along in the future we will need two trucks, so will set both up as an 'expedition' team with balanced loads.
In 2018 we will take a test trip somewhere with both trucks. Possibly back to Morocco (again!) as Jess loved it and it was her first time in 2016. I don't really mind as I do love the country and don't mind spending my tourist dollars in a state that welcomes overlanders rather than piling on restrictions, fees and bureaucracy.
The next big trip will be 2020. At the moment the two main candidates are Australia or Southern/East Africa. These will definitely be 3-4 month trips, so planning and budgeting will be key. It may seem silly, but I am going to ship both trucks wherever we choose to go rather than rent. This is what I built Tembo for and couldn't see the point in going if I couldn't take my truck(s).
So, that is our update!

| Pretty much the same here James I'm doing Scotland and the western isles in April (to miss the midge season)
Then away again to France, Andorra and Spain in October with a group of friends.
Quiet this year as in between I'm planning my mamouth trip for next year, France, Belgian, Holland, German the Italian coast both west and east then if time and money allow Croatia, Bosnia etc down to Greece. Probably three months with a friend and my wife flying out and joining me for weeks here and there

| Spring travel this year is pretty much out. Finally decided to buy a house, so the move will happen in April-ish at some point. But the new place finally has a decent (by UK standards) garage, so keen to get moved over. | |

| I did think of doing Scotland more towards the summer months but past experience has shown me the little biting insects are at their worst from June onwards. Also I'm currently helping out at the WI two days a week mainly covering holidays and sickness July and August are going to be manic for me. Good luck with the house purchase are you looking at staying in the MK area ? | |

We bought a place on the Althorp Estate (Princess Diana's family) just west of Northampton...so about 30 minutes from where we are now. Quite a cool area actually.
