Map Reading Empty
PostSubject: Map Reading   Map Reading EmptySun Jul 05, 2015 11:25 pm

How many people can read a map? I ask because it seems that not many can actually read a map and interpret information it contains on it and use it correctly and tend to rely solely on electronic aids to navigate; and for us as off roaders navigation is crucial as electronic aids are fine until their batteries go flat or you lose signal.

Grandson has been taught to read a map and it was proven to be worthwhile recently when he went orienteering for the first time with school and the group he was with damaged their GPS and by looking at a map he was able to find his location by using hills and their height, he needed no compass or even the GPS.

It is these sorts of skills we need to keep alive.

Well done mate, that's what life should be about ... the basics. Fair play to you too Yoda (roamingman) for also teaching the next generation. Reckon with your guidance she'll turn out to be a good 'un!
