Our 90 AKA "Mr Happy" Empty
PostSubject: Our 90 AKA "Mr Happy"   Our 90 AKA "Mr Happy" EmptyMon Jan 03, 2011 5:40 am

Bought his last easter when I was on the hunt for an engine for the 110 I was hoping to finish rebuilding (but never did).

1996 300 tdi 90 hardtop, one owner before us and a genuine 250 odd thousand miles on it when we got it. I took a bit of a gamble as I'd not heard it run due to an immobiliser fault but enough people local that I trusted knew it wquite well and it was a good price. An hour with the side cutters and a BIG pile of useless wire and bits had it running lovely.

Spent a few weeks doing little bits to it to get it MOT ready and then we took if fro a shakedown trip round the Highlands.

I hadn't really intended keeping it as a whole but we both really like it and the fact it's so unmolested it seemed a shame to even consider taking its engine and associated bits so it looks like it's here to stay.

I'm not normally one for naming vehicles but SWMBO kept calling it Mr Happy due to part of the reg number and it's kinda stuck!

Here's a before shot and one in it's current guise.

Yep, plain old rusty 8 spokes - thinking might go down the wolf rim route this year but will have to see what comes along Very Happy

We get on well with the Oztent - we've been using them ofr around 2 years or so now and it suits what we do most of the time. Ours is an RV 2 though so is a little mor efragile on the hinges but on the whole well pleased and we can be all set up and in bed within a couple of minutes of parking up cheers1

Suppose I'd best update this thread, it's only been 4 1/2 years since I started it Embarassed

A few months after we got back from Norway with it I ended up poking lots of holes in the chassis prior to MOT time so ended up fitting a galv chassis on th drive at home (a lot easier than I expected) and it kept going as daily driver until I sold it late last year barely run in with a genuine 325,000 miles on it cheers1

As far as I know that was on the original engine, gearbox, transferbox and axles too.

Didn't really want to get rid of it but knew it was going to start needing some work doing that I didn't really have the rime or inclination to do so fiured it was best to go while it was still half decent.

I'd had a haggling for an L400 Delica for a long time so ended up going that route.

Even at the age it was and with the big milage, I managed to buy a tidy Delia with sub 85,000 miles on it, an 18 month old motorbike and still have some change left over so fairly chuffed so far.
