Car Spares List Empty
PostSubject: Car Spares List   Car Spares List EmptyMon Jan 03, 2011 10:49 pm

I try to travel fairly light...I know many take a lot more spares. The way I see it, if it will not stop me from moving, then it is a lower priority to take...for example I replace my shock absorbers if they have had a fair abuse before setting off on a trip...if a shock did die, it wont make too much difference to a leaf sprung vehicle, so I dont take any.

Thought I would compile a list of what I take for my 1963 SWB Land Rover...it all fits into a plastic box from a supermarket and a metal box which fits is bolted to the wheelarch (as well as containing many tools etc).

Car Spares
1 X Rear light, 1 X Front Sidelight (complete assemblies)
Assortment of bulbs (H3, H4 and standard LR bulbs)
Assortment of fuses, electrical connectors (spades, inline, etc), 2 X waterproof inline fuses, 2 X 30A Relay, Different grades of electical wire
Box of new assorted nuts, bolts, washers and a box of random bits of old metal, washers, etc
2 x Brake Cylinder (1x new, 1 x old spare)
2 X wheel bearing kits + 2 extra oil seals
Rotar arm
Set of points (soon to be taken out as going electronic)
2 X distributor caps
Set of shock bushes
1 x clutch salve cylinder
Set of spark plugs and leads
Coolant pipes
4th gear assembly (incase overdrive dies and needs to be removed)
Spares for FWH
Engine top end gasket kit + extra rocker gasket
Stub axle gaskets
4 X alternator/fan belt
Military fixed fan (to back up electric fan if needed)
2 X Spare wheels & tyres
Puncture repair Kit
Bonnet elevation kit Wink
Oil Filter
Spare pipe for oil cooler + blanking plate
Strip of rubber seal

Other car related kit
Antifreeze ready mixed (approx 5 litres) + antifreeze concentrate
6 Litre oil + 5 x 1 litre oil
Silicone sealant
Grease gun plus spare grease
EP90
Dot 3/4 brake fluid
Contact Adhesive
Superglue
WD40
GAFFA TAPE
THREADED ROD (6, 8, 10 and 12mm) and associated nuts/bolts/washers
General purpose rope
3 X heavy duty ratchet straps, 3 x luggage straps
2 X Universal Joints for props
3 X 20 Litre Metal Jerry cans
3 X 20 Litre plastic jerry cans (rarely used)
Hi Lift Jack + 2 X waffle boards. Heavy Duty towing rope and shackles
Triangle warning kit + 2 X visibility vests

Similar to other people's car spares etc kit?

Yup I have all what is needed if tthe o/d packs in Smile

The points...it will be an electronic distributor....there would be no point in taking points with me as they simply would not fit on the new dissy....so unless i'd normally take a spare dissy, which I wouldn't, then that's all good.

Beter late than never. Electronic ignitions have only been around since 1948! Razz

Go wrong? I had a Lumenition Optronic electronic ignition system on my 1973 2-door RR and it was the best thing I ever did. All that hassle with dizzies banished forever. It never skipped a beat on 7,000+ dusty miles of the Paris-Dakar and racing back in the rain-sodden UK. I would never go back to points, what's the ... Rolling Eyes

I thought it was quite a short list...all fits into one box. I do have a kitchen sink in another box...well...a plastic tub anyway :-)
