Sound deadening fitted along with some insulation and fold down beds also made a start boarding the rear out and fitting some lighting.
Now waiting for the weather to stop raining so I can get on with the job in hand

A quick update on the fit out for the 110 before Morocco next year.

I've fitted a battery meter this morning and a little red flashing light so it looks like its alarmed.

Waiting for my new fuse box to arrive so I can get cracking with the electrics.
In the meantime I can finish the insulation on the roof and make a start fitting storage boxes before carpeting and generally tarting it up.

The truck is looking really good Gary, you are doing a great job well done mate.
I was expecting there to be a bit more water in the rivers going in April but it sound like there could be quiet a bit if there is flooding already, should make it interesting.

More updates to follow

Well the back is now insulated and most of the paneling is in place, it broke my heart yesterday to dismantle the storage boxes I had fitted in the Discovery but it had to be done so I can reuse the wood to complete the rear of the truck before starting on the cab.

Making the most of the bright weather  I wired in one of the two battery meters and the white and red internal led lights.



Beds and bed supports back in and the beginning of the storage compartment is taking shape



Once the storage is fitted I will make a start wiring in the CB, CD, speakers, auxiliary battery and the other lighting.

Nothing wrong with a little recycling.

Or does it have a fancy name now? oh yes its called upcycling.

When I first read the comment without my glasses on I thought you meant have I given the truck a natty name !

I tend not to go in for naming stuff, with the exception of my wife's old Ford Escort which she used to call Norm as that's what it said on the temp gauge.

But upcycling never heard that one before, bit like our technical recycling operative or bin man as I like to still call him.

Well after working nights yesterday I decided not to go to bed and get straight on with fitting the rear of the truck out, big mistake  

Firstly I fitted the false bulkhead to divide the load space in half, half for storage and half as a sitting area if the weather is bad mistake one only checked the ride hand side with the bed down somehow managed to get the left hand side 4mm higher doesn't sound much but now the beds don't lay flat and foul on the bulkhead DOH

Then after fiddling around and deciding to just just plain a little of the bottom of the beds and a little off the top of the bulkhead decided to box in the lower rear portion of the sitting area to cover the insulation mistake two measured once not twice which resulted in cutting twice not once  

Then in a bid to get finished before it got too dark I drilled a 3mm hole right through the side of the truck

Morale of the story,  don't undertake work of this kind when your tired

Gives it character! When you're old and grey to can tell the story of how some irate rambler shot at you while out 'laning ... 'cause Government legislation handed him permission to do so. Trouble is, the way things are going, that may not be so far from the truth.

A nice looking fit-out, you should have some comfortable nights sleep in there. Sure beats having to put a tent up each night.
Where did you get the foil insulation from? I could do with some for the back of my disco, I've pulled the fancy fitments out to claim a bit more space but would like to reduce sound bouncing about and insulate at the same time, and just cover over with some thin ply to keep the dogs from chewing the cable looms.

I used evostick flashing from Screwfix as sound deadening,cheaper than the alloy backed adhesive sheets not quite as good but did the whole back for less than a Ms2 of the other stuff and its water proof so fills all those little holes.

For the insulation I used the stuff for behind radiators also from Screwfix for the roof its like bubblewrap laminated both sides with alufoil and for the sides I used the polystyrene laminated foil from B&Q as I could get 35mm in the gaps and 10mm is supposed to be equivalent to 50mm of conventional insulation, so Bob really is you mothers brother.
Totall insulation cost about £50, total sound deaderning about £40 hope that helps

Well things have moved on a pace with the truck.

Removable shelf fitted to the rear door for the cooker and I've now decided on the internal storage layout and started sectionalising into space for tools and recovery gear, cooker general kitchen equipment , spares water, extra fuel second battery cradle  and the first fit of a CD player and speakers although this still needs work.

On the mechanical side I've noticed a seeping on one of the front shocks so replacement needed but where do you draw the line on something like that ?
While replacing the shock the turret looks to be pretty caroded and why stop there why not replace the springs at the same time !

After looking on the Internet at shock absorbers I find the original Land Rover equipment to be very reasonable priced so do I replace like for like or do I go for uprated items ? Now I know someone will say OME all the way but do I really need to go to that extreme on a truck which will spend 10 months of the year on European roads and 2 months on sand, rocks, gravel etc ?

On asking at my local independant LR garage he recommended Terrafima shocks with external resavouir as this would allow extra cooling for the dampers and in effect be like fitting a shock and a half on each corner when I said about fitting twin shocks the reply was it would make the setup too stiff and with an older truck might break other mechanical parts.

I had Terrafima pro comp shocks on the disco and they seemed to perform well enough so which way to go eh !

Now if I do he front I will probably replace the rear as well shocks and springs as you can see the cost is now spiralling out of control but the old adage buy cheap and buy twice springs to mind.

The other thing to take into account is  most uprated items seem to include a suspension lift which I don't really want although the extra weight of carrying expedition gear may make this necessary.
I've seen first hand the effects of fitting very stiff springs etc and the resulting loss of articulation which I need to avoid if at all possible.

Well I've rambled on long enough on the subject and I've got a few months before the Morocco trip to make a decision on suspension along with that t he other things to take into account are a full service including cam belt, diff oil change and possible on overhaul of the brakes it doesn't seem to end !

Oh and I forgot to mention the tyres on the truck were giving me cause for concern not holding air I though a first a local scallywag might be letting the air out but on closer inspection at my local tyre garage I was met with a bigger problem firstly the alloy wheels fitted may look nice but are not rated for a 110 only a 90 and possible a D 1 and where the truck has been standing for months (nearer a year and a half in truth) the sidewalks were showing sighs of hairline cracks.

So the fix had to be new steel wheels and tyres, I had narrowed the tyre choice down to Khumo and Cooper tyres but with replacement of 4 wheels and tyres looking to cost in excess of £550 I started looking for alternatives.

I had Insa Turbo Dakar remould fitted to the Disco and tbh they performed brilliantly but with the remould price as much as the new tyre price this idea was a no starter.

After a chat with a local LR fanatic he put me in touch with a guy who builds trucks for competitions and he told me he has a steady flow of wheels and tyres he takes off trucks with little or no wear because the owners want 35" tyres and extreme wheels with bead locks etc so a trip to his garage in The New Forest was order of the day
I returned home with 4 modular steel wheels and 4 slightly worn Khumo tyres for less than half the price of new RESULT !!!

Hi, like you been thing of how far to go with the Discovery 1, like your self did not wish to do a lift, so thinging of bigger springs, already have new shokcs on front, so will have to do the back, have new discs and pads to fit and rubber bushes, also decided to get steel wheels and tyres so went here

4 wheels and tyres £450 that is made up and delivered to Scotland.

Have already fitted steering gard and diff gards, ordered a raised air intake, need to get cambelt changed, then do a full service, and working in the back to get a bed for Dilys (she has little legs) need to put in leisure battries have the 2 from the 130, place for water, clothes tools and some spear parts, already have cooker on back door, rear awning for me to sleep in, and other stuff needed, not going to put has much as we did in the 130 lot of stuff did not use.  motor in garage for a few jobe I was not able to do, then mot.

Yes same here Kevin took loads of stuff I never used last time.
So keeping it simple and down to a minimum this time, at least with the beds in the back i won't have to mess about with tents etc.

I've looked on YouTube at some of the 110 fit outs and tbh hot water tanks and showers do you really need all that parafinalia when you have a cooker, kettle etc.
If your in a camp site use the facilities if your wild camping solar shower and stand behind your truck, no one around for miles in any direction no worries, a lone camel might get an eyeful but I'm sure they've seen worse

solar shower sounds good, but will do the same as 2013 and have a strip down wash under the awning with sides on, also been thinking of a roof top bag, be lighter than a roof rack,
