I have just bought a late 2004 Nissan Patrol with the intention of doing somehing adventurous. I have driven to Morocco and Turkey on several occassions in a converted bus and have spent some time driving a Landrover in Kenya. I have also driven is such places as the Outer Hebrides, Norway and Lithuania. I have retired twice but am currently working but planning to be away at least twice next year. I own a motorhome which I use extensively but want to do somthing different. Two priorities. First is to modify the Nissan. Second is to try and encourage some friends to join me. My wife is not a wild camper or very comfortable in a tent. Lots of good information on this site and I look forward to using it regularly

Welcome! cheers

As I'm sure you're aware, there's not a massive Patrol scene over here in the UK, mainly due to the cost of spares, specialised accessories, etc. but where you will be heading to, there will be a lot more about.

I know they love 'em in Oz because they are rugged beasts ... Patrols that is, although Aussies come a close second, and they're just the women!!! Razz

Croeso Tiggs,
Patrols are mean beasts, I saw loads of prepared vehicles out in Australia last year and have been looking at a few nice ones for sale over here. There's not much needed doing to a Patrol, some under body protection maybe if that's the type of use you intend it for.
I have the same problem with my wife when it comes to camping, I keep telling her that when she learns to put the tent up properly I will let her in!!
What part of Wales are you in, I'm in the beautiful south.

It is not so hard to add enough comfort to your rig, so that the comfort is pretty good!

My car has at sample warm/cold water for showering with a engine-heatexchanger, we carrry 85l water. Too we have an cooler box and a freezer box, an board battery.

With all named above we have a comfortable bed inside.

Maybe this threas bring you some ideas:

One of the problems is that for the past 12 years we have travelled around Europe in a good quality German Motorhome. double bed, central  heating and shower and toilet. Just fancied something different. My wife will come occassionaly other times I will have to convince friends to join me

We all hate to admit it, but the 'age thing' comes into play as time goes on. It's okay roughing it on the odd occasion, but how can anyone compete against a comfy double bed, central heating and shower and toilet? That's life I suppose, sad ain't it? Sad
