Hi All,

Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself.
Name -  Taf,
Travel Experience - Other than the usual commercial flights its a lean travel resume - born in Wales, traveled to England Ireland, Scotland, France, Germany, Belgium, Florida, Cyprus, Israel and Egypt. However each of these trips have been am arrive/do the tourist spots/leave trip. Now I want to see/experience more.

The plan is to take a trip in 2017 using our car to finally visit the countries, as opposed to just visiting tourist spots. the cars a fully kitted out Landcruiser and we have had several tips in Australia to 'hone' our skills, with terrain covered such as mud, bitumen, desert and everything in between. SO we have the car, we have the off-road experience to cover most possibilities/terrain, and we have the dream.

What we don have is a clue on where to start planning.... No  which is why i am now sat in front of the PC and searching for helps hints and suggestions.

So far we have three possibilities
1. Moscow to London
2. Beijing to London
3. Cape Town to London

the reason London is the final destination is so I can meet family at the end, and once we have flown back to Australia , we can then ship the car back to Australia from London as well.

Anyhow...that's us, happy to admit that we have 'all the gear and no idea' , but with hopes that 2017 could finally be the year when we get to live the dream.

Cheers ,

Taf

Hi and welcome, clinking teacups

I would like to go the other way London to Beijing, so planing started, don't know if you know you need to book a guide to drive through China, and at the moment the bond you need to pay is quite large depending on the value.

good luck when you get to London let us know maybe able to meet up.

Hi

Roamingman - Thanks for the reply - yep. I know about the guide in china, but thanks for mentioning it anyway. Its the one factor that puts me off the Beijing to London trip. Thats a substantial amount of the trip funds.

Tom MC - Thanks for the reply - Im assuming that no matter which option we take there will have to be 'last minute' changes due to geopolitical factors. As for the homework, its bloody overwhelming at present. I'm starting to write lists, or at least headings, such as Carnet, Visas, Shipping costs, etc etc....then i plan to take one bite at a time and hopefully, fingers crossed, I may actually be able to pull this off

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I have also had a secret desire to do London to Beijing and travel some of the silk route but as always red tape and security has put a bit of a damper on it.

My all time favourite trip would be drive to South East Asia containerise the Disco and ship to Oz for a year long trip around the coast.
But the wife isn't up for it, something about money and commitments, who knew she wanted me committed.

Good luck with your planning, there are bond companies that will put up the money and do the paperwork for China but I may be trying to teach the proverbial.
