Hi mate I would PM Tuggy he is the font of all knowledge when it comes to Morocco, I'm looking at changing my sat nav to a Tom Tom as they have 85% coverage of the area for around £40 I don't think I can get that for my old nav man and to be honest after it spent a day submerged in water although it's working at the moment I know it's got to let me down at some point and I'd rather not take the risk.

| It's pretty easy to get a morocco map on Memory Map.
Scan your map as a tiff document (in one if you can). Upload it to MM (must be european edition) Calibrate it by marking at least three natural points on the map against the same points/coordinates on goodle earth.
Not as accurate as olafs map IMO but gives a good overview (on a large screen) of where you are. Also the Michelin map is very flimsy so if it get trashed, you still have a map on your laptop.
Unfortunately I no longer have my laptop.

| "Unfortunately I no longer have my laptop." Bet you still have your Michelin map though?
After breaking down in the South of France a while back, my laptop was either nicked by ...
The recovery truck driver who hauled my vehicle off to the local garage. The staff of the local garage. The truck driver who transferred my vehicle from the South to the North of France. The staff of the garage in Calais where it ended up for repair.
In fact there are so many possible points where it could have been stolen, it wasn't even worth kicking up a stink about it, so never pursued the matter. Fortunately not much data on the laptop to worry about, plus it was a cheapie. Should have taken it with me as 'hand luggage' and not left it on board.
In case of breakdown and vehicle repatriation, take all valuables with you - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

| This is what I do for my Memory Map S7000 and my 3500. Buy a Topographical map of the area you are going. Go to your nearest printers and get them to scan it in high def. (my local printer company charges me 10 GBP to do this) Upload it into your memory map (check the user Technical help forum on memory map web site, you will see exact details how to do this) Link is here - http://www.memory-map.co.uk/supportforum/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=2992Calibrate it by using Google. Hey presto..... I have done this for my Morocco, Alps and Botswana trips. | |

| Thanks very much for this information guys, very helpful!
I've been looking for a little while now for concise information about getting Morocco maps onto Memory map.
In terms of Sat Nav, mine is in need of replacing so i was thinking of getting Garmin this time instead of Tom Tom as i'm led to believe that there is a wider variety of mapping available for areas such as Morocco, is this correct?
If so does anyone have any recommendations as to which unit to buy?

| If you go down the Garmin route then as long as the Garmin has an SD card slot you can use T4A maps - http://tracks4africa.co.za/I use both Memory Map with scanned maps and Garmin with T4A maps, and they are both good. | |

| Thanks for the reply Scott, just the sort of feedback i was looking for. I had always really liked my Tom tom until it broke, but had always struggled finding map sources for it, always seemed much easier to find Garmin based maps out there. I'll keep the SD card slot in mind. | |
