Has anyone used this outside Europe? I was told it can be used outside as long as you install a digital map of the area needed.
Its not cheap, but I am keen if it is useful outside Europe.

That is a good bit of kit. I had the adventurer 7000. But the screen was half that size.

I ended up transfering the memory map software to my laptop (bigger screen)

You can upload any map to memory map see my website for more info

The Adventurer S7000 is the ultimate GPS device. Pre-loaded as standard with full UK & European SatNav for on-road navigation as well as Memory-Map software for off-road navigation, the Adventurer S7000 is the most versatile large screen GPS available.

Yeah your quite right I misread the web site it's a bit misleading I put in the search for the S7000 and it showed the 2800 just looked again the 7000 is a lot bigger and comes with more loaded maps

I have had my S7000 for a while now and what an excellent bit of kit...!!!!!!
I even managed to upload my own scanned map of Morocco and calibrate it on the S7000 with ease. I used it during my 2011 Morocco trip, and it was spot on!
I recently have just returned from an Alps trip where I used the memory map mapping for Europe, and again was pleased with the results.
Its not a cheap unit, but it is an excellent piece of kit.!!

Being cheeky here scott - any chance of a copy of your morocco map ?

Like the unit - and its easy to see as I'm a fair way from the screen in the Iveco so the 7 inch screen is good

Oh and if anyone has maps of portugal showing dirt roads etc. then I'd love copies of thse too

Hi Rich,
I just bought a 10 GBP Topo paper map and got it scanned in high res at my local printers. They charged me 10 GBP for doing this.
I then used DIMIN viewer (free to download) to adjust the Palette settings as you need to change it to 256 for the S7000 to accept the map. There is a thread on memory map technical forum explaining the steps. Wink
I then used Google earth to plot the Lat and Longs to calibrate it. (Needs a minimum of 3 points, but I use 5)
I can send you it, but you might already have a Topo paper map that would work?

FYI - I have also just done the same with a paper map of Botswana and saved it on my 3500 for a back up GPS for my next trip, as the hire 4x4 comes with GPS, but I wanted a handheld as a back up.

Adventurer S7000 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Adventurer S7000   Adventurer S7000 EmptySun Apr 13, 2014 5:51 am

Hi everybody,

I am planning a trip to the Jura region of France and was thinking of investing in a S7000 I have used memory map on a mini PC with a GPS receiver on the roof. I wanted to reduce the clutter in the cabin etc and thought this would be ideal.

I have bought IGN 1:25 France MM before and you used to be able to buy them by the region on DVD and transfer then to your laptop. But this is a new area that I have not visited before. However having bought the licenses for the latest version it seems that now you have to download them from map shop as you need each section. Which is ok but is reliant on a wap or a wifi connection when you need it which I bet will not happen! I have heard that you can do an enclosure and download the map to your PC but I have not had much success with this - read major frustration to say the least. I was wondering if any of you guys have used the s7000 with the latest version of MM and wondered how you guys found it?

How easy is it to transfer the maps from PC (when I can work out where I am going wrong with the enclosure thing to download map sections to view offline) to Adventurer and use them?

Would I have more joy just using my iPhone despite it having a much much smaller screen as at least my phone can usually get a WAP signal. Costs for using WAP being considered of course!

My ideal scenario would be if it came with the maps already installed! Especially for France!

Any advice?

Cheers

John

Hi John,
I love my S7000! I don't bother with downloading maps, as I just grab a very detailed TOPO paper map and get my local printers to scan it. You can then load that onto the S7000 and calibrate it yourself using Google Lat and Longs. It takes a bit of getting use to and the file needs to be 256 bit colour, but if you search the Memory Map Forum, you will see a forum thread (which I started) explaining how to do this.
Any issues ping me a note and I will help. Im currently on a trip around Ireland and the S7000 is working great!

Hi

I can see it has its uses and is very tempting as I will be able to ditch my mini laptop and my Tomtom. But my question is how do I get the IGN 1:25 maps of France onto it seeing as you now have to have a WAP or Wifi connection unless you can get enclosure to work! I don't know why it does not seem to work for IGN France maps. I have tried following the instructions on the web site but it does not work. For instance it says that any panel which the enclosure route passed through should download to you PC but on mine it only saves what is on screen and if I zoom out I can't get it all on my screen :-( I have paid for them so I might as well get the use of them! I guess I should trundle over to this forum you mention and ask for some advice as to why it won't work.

I tried accessing the forum on the main memory map site but I could not see anywhere for you to sign up to post messages. Most unhelpful! Do you have a link to a page where new users can sign in?

Thanks very much...

John

Have a look here - http://www.memory-map.co.uk/supportforum/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=2992

All you need to do is get a map scanned as a JPG or BMP, and make sure its set at 256 Colour. Once its in the memory map just use google lat and long to calibrate it. You need a minimum of 3 points to calibrate it. I use Image View 5 program to change the Colour to 256 as mentioned in the forum section.
Have a look at the forum thread to see if it helps.

If you have no luck, ping me again and I will see if I can help.

Just off to make a big fry up before me and the gang are heading down to Southern Ireland.... Smile
