PostSubject: 285 75 16 tyres   285 75 16 tyres EmptyMon Oct 21, 2013 7:07 am

Looking at modernising the tyre fitment on my Iveco as I can't get 8.25's easily and they are all road pattern.

I can get new wheels made so i can use tubeless tyres which gives me quite a selection in 285 75 16 (33 inch tall tyre)

Now i'm sticking to the higher load ratings (126) so thats 1700kg per corner for a 4.5 tonne truck

So I could go for BFG, muds, Hankooks, Cooper STT's or a set of general grabber AT's. Don't want something too aggresive as most driving is done on tarmac (i'll keep my existing set of tyres for non expedition use)

So amyone any thoughts on durability, mileage etc out of different makes, currently the BFG (the most expensive), the coppers (mid range) or the General grabber (cheapest) are the front runners

Thoughts please

we have run several sets of BFG----and really rate them-------but my latest set are Firestone------(they were really cheap!!!!!!) and so far seem OK---(one trip to Portugal and another to the North of Norway/Sweden)--although I don't think they will give the same mileage as the BFGs they replaced

Hi,
I'm on BFG AT 285 75 16 (Toyota LC 80).
We have just finished one year on the road: UK to Senegal, then six months in southern Africa. We have been in all kinds of terrain: tar, gravel, sand (various consistency), rocks, and snow. Total distance, including our two weeks in the Alps in 2011, is approaching 48,000km. On the same set of tyres! And I have only had one puncture. I love these tyres. clapping

Just got the price back for the wheels

Just regained the power of speech now !

So 7.5 inch wide wheels are out. 6.5 inch wide are in as they are a good deal cheaper

So tyre choice is now down to Toyo Open country MT or BFG AT as it needs to be 255 / 85 /16 tyres

Open country are tempting on price , bfg on reputation.

Any thoughts - anyone used toyo tyres ?

PS truck off to roverland campers this weekend for installation of external lockers

BFG don't do the AT in a 255/85 flavour unfortunately.

Great size though. That's what I've got on the 90 (And previously the 110) in BFG MT style.

not silly big, wide enough to cope but not Carlos Vandango wide either.
