| I work as an insurance consultant and the best advice is buy a policy that suits what youll be doing for the coming twelve months - dont just buy the cheapest you can find online, make sure you tailor it to your own requirements so you dont come unstuck!
There is usually a limit to european cover of between 30-90 days per policy year, which can sometimes be increased for an extra cost, or after that limit expires you cover is reduced to the legal minimum limit in the country you are travelling in/through (ie UK would be third party only cover)
Similar with home insurance, usually between 30 and 60 days cover while your away/holidaying etc, but that time is generally reset every time you return home, so you could go a multiple 2/3 week trips per policy year. If you plan on going for longer, generally exclusions will apply and perhaps extra premium payable.
Visit a reputable independent broker, most towns have one, tell them what you want for the coming year, and theyll sourse exactly what you need.

| Hi thanks for posting that----many people believe that 365 days means just that:( I am curious how the 'round the World' travelers get on with insurance----do they buy 'border ins.' for each Country ????------our ins. doesn't even cover Maroc Nigel & Pamala | |

| Well im not going to pretend to a round the world insurance expert, but generally the policy documents will tell you which countries you are covered to travel through, generally the EU/mainland Europe perhaps excluding former USSR states.
Im relatively new overlanding (and shall be posting requests for help at some point today) but the company I work for has arranged these types of cover in the past, although whether they still do/can I dont know, but I will find out.
If youre sticking to mainland europe and surrounds ie north africa, know roughly where and when youll be going, visit/call a good independent broker. Chances are youll pay more than you would if you werent going on these trips, but if you go and the cover isnt correct all youve bought is a very expensive piece of paper.
