Cotswold's 7 Day Tour..... Empty
PostSubject: Cotswold's 7 Day Tour.....   Cotswold's 7 Day Tour..... EmptyMon Oct 15, 2012 7:26 am

Hi All

Ive had time recently to go on holiday. So myself and my "Fiancée" went on a 7 Night stint staying in various accommodations from my fishing tent, to a Bed & Breakfast to a Lodge to sleeping under the stars all in & Around the Cotswold's and surrounding areas. We had a lovely time, going from 70 hour work weeks to getting up and doing exactly what we wanted when we wanted was bliss.
We started off from Swindon, and travelled 20 minutes on the A419 to Cheltenham and ended up in a place called Ashton Keynes. There we found a nice quiet place to make camp, just opposite the wotswold water park.
Over the next few days, we stayed here and there, a B&B or two, then found a lovely lodge for the last 3 nights that we got for sub £100.
During our visit, we drove around the surrounding areas, walked around the country side, went to many of the water parks and pools, fishing, shooting you name it we managed to fit it in. It was great.
We did just over 350 Miles driving, here there and everywhere. From Tetbury, to stow on the wold, to Cheltenham to lechlade on Thames to chipping camdem. The S Type was flawless like usual, not your usual "expedition and tourer" but we could tick along at 30mph or hit 3 figure speeds when time was ticking on. Think of driving your Lounge at high speeds......
A trully great 7 Nights away, and a nice retreat from long hour Shifts.

Pictures to follow.

... and some decent weather to boot! Nice part of the world around there. That said, after working 70 hours a week, pitching a tent on land fill and doing bugger-all but slob about all day would seem like paradise! clapping

Great fan of exploring the UK as there are many untold places to find off the beaten track which are nice and peaceful and competitivly priced, its often these little jewels which you find when you least expect to and in many small places the people are much more laid back, welcoming and friendly.

With money so tight for many people a UK trip makes an ideal week or two away as it costs much less in fuel, vehicle wear, and it becomes affordable, yet you are still exploring a part of the world you didn't know existed in your own back yard.

Oh so true. It's amazing how many people you meet that haven't seen much of England/Scottishland/Wales at all, yet have travelled to many parts of the world.

Another reason to get yourself a camper, a tour of village pubs would be fun, and when the evening is over, just instantly crawl into bed. Seems like a plan Stan! thumbsup

Touring the UK is more Practical for myself and Partner at the moment. Mainly due to cost and time. If we could take a month off we would. We would get a ferry and drive around Europe.

99% of people on this forum go on holiday or off on an adventure to see things and go places that no one has. This is still a goal of mine. But there is so much locally, and in the UK that neither myself or my fiancée has seen, and for the cost and ease of a weekend here and there, its easy to do and a real eye opener.

I used to think the UK was boring, but there is so much right on our door step. A big interest to me is my ancestry past. Our Christianity & Anglo Saxon heritage. The UK is full of it.

Where I live in South West Scotland (Dumfries and Galloway) is a lovely area which not many people visit they either head to the highlands or squeeze into the Lakes. There is plenty of nice wee toons good fishing, and some nice quiet roads, good coastline d good hillwalking and plenty of places to cycle, so all in all still undiscovered. clinking teacups

I'm a big fan of the UK, like you said many people travel to far flung places and never seem to think about places an hour down the road.

Two years ago I bought a book called 52 weekend by the sea a couple in a VW camper van traveled round the coast stopping at small places a little off the beaten track, I've now done around half the book over the last 2 years and found some really beautiful places (mind you some not so nice) but I would firmly recommend the book for the pictures alone.

I believe the author has now done a sequel 52 weekends in the country but I reckon I've got at least another year on the sea book before thinking about the new one.

Just get out there and enjoy thumbsup

I remember when you bought that book and started doing the trips. Great idea.

You're spot on of course about folk "never seem to think about places an hour down the road". Thought the same the same the other day as I was watching Countryfile or a similar type programme. The scenery in which they were driving was stunning. Forget exactly where now - memory of a goldfish me - memory of a goldfish me - but it was spectacular.

Plenty out there if people just bothered to look.
